this article hits on some really important points about how fucking ridiculous it can be to get any sort of gender affirming care in my state. connecticut politicians have gotten too comfortable with their actions being ignored just because it’s a blue state.
i had a consultation for top surgery over a year ago. i had a letter from my therapist, had been out and living as my gender socially for nearly five years, and was caught completely off guard by, first off, just how little respect the surgeon i had spoken with had for my gender identity i had been living comfortably with again, for five years, just because i am gender non-conforming, but even more so by the fact that one letter was not enough. even upon getting into contact with a psychiatrist, they still weren’t qualified to write a second letter.
unfortunately in the year since that consultation it has become nearly impossible financially for me to continue looking into top surgery, and the amount of roadblocks connecticut has been allowing to exist has not helped in the slightest. all this moral panic about trans youth transitioning for what? trans adults who are in perfectly sound mind to consent to surgery being belittled by the people that are supposed to perform that very surgery on them? the only people speaking up about this being trans and the therapists who are willing to play their part in helping, often trans themselves???
i’m sick of democrats being comfortable just because their states are the ones generally viewed as reasonable, all while not making the slightest move in support of trans people out of fear of losing support from terfs. do fucking better, connecticut.
