@a-lady-of-pseudony

my opinions are always written, may it be in paper, your mind, or in your soul, my works will always be within you

My bridgerton addiction had come back and I feel the need to share my opinion, despite it being unnecessary or unwanted lels hahaha.

But do allow me of the privilege to speak for I had kept whatever this is inside of me for weeks now.

Penelope by far, had been discriminated and been subjected of the scrutiny of some, for the choices she have made and the articles she had chose to release as lady whistledown. And pardon me if I say I find this hatred quite unnecessary, as a show watcher since season 1 and a book fan as well, I can say that whatever Penelope does isn't jealousy, that whatever it is that she had chosen to write isn't written to discriminate but rather to point out the flaw that she thinks she sees. And that one must remember that whatever she writes wasn't actually originally from her but from the wagging tongue of the ton themselves (except for some bits that she revealed to save some people ofc) , I mean yeah, she's the one who published such scandal but her scandal is ofc taken from the rumors she heard among the ton, that what she chooses to say is merely her opinions on the topics she had heard, hence it is called a scandal sheet not a news paper. Another thing is her revelation and articles about certain people namely; Marina, Colin, and Eloise. First of Marina and Colin, I have read and constantly heard so many foul words said because of this issue, and so allow me to explain my take on this end, Penelope had begged Marina, take note BEGGED Marina not to include Colin in her plans, and when this fails, she turned to Colin to warn him, which bad for him chooses not to believe her words, it is then that she decided to release and write that article about the pregnancy. Listen here people, check this out she didn't say anything about him calling on Marina, instead she just watched them from the corners with jealous eyes, and for those who claims that she did it for herself, why would she do that? If you notice Pen is Marina's cousin, Marina debuted under the featherington name which would mean that whatever fate marina had planned affects her prospects and fate as well, revealing Marina as a liar would result negatively to her family (as you have ofc seen). What she did isn't selfishness, but rather the opposite as it put her in trouble, she is merely saving a friend, who doesn't deserve to be deceived to take care of another man's children without his knowledge. Next of is Eloise, again and again, I will tell you that Eloise is the one at fault, she chose to put herself in situation that would bring her repercussions. Eloise is the one who chose to indulge herself in identifying lady whistledown's identity, and again, as always Penelope had warned her more than once that what she does will put her in danger. But no Eloise just had to push her way in because she is stubborn as that, if only Eloise listened from the very beginning that she shall not indulge herself in such things anymore, she wouldn't have met theo, who lead Eloise to become the Queen's prime suspect as Lady whistledown. I know that some would say that Penelope could just reveal herself, ofc she can, but do you honestly think that the queen would believe her? Hell no, the queen would only think of her revelation as a way of saving Eloise's reputation (which she explained, *scene with madame delacroix*), in which at that time would only result to bigger consequences (given the scandal between sharma and bridgerton).

What Penelope does isn't something we could say morally right, but something that the situation requires, she maybe harsh and cruel, but that is the point, honesty is often cruel as it is reflected by the show. If you wanted to blame someone, it is not Penelope but the characters who chose to do that to themselves.

Had Marina, Colin, and Eloise, chose to listen to what Penelope had said bigger consequences should have been prevented.

And as I end my commentary, I again beg of you that I want no hate, that I merely offer my opinion on such topic. That is all, thank you!

Pardon the crooked english and improper grammar, I am quite sleepy while writing this commentary.

TBOSAS SPOILER WARNING!

Okay now that that’s over with… I’d like to talk about Lucy Grey Baird and Coriolanus Snow.

I have so many complicated feelings about this relationship. It’s taken me a week to finally sort it out.

In fact, a quote from Catching Fire is what comes to mind. “There was longing too. But it had too much competition to ever win out.” (Collins, Catching Fire)

Coriolanus Snow was never looking for love. He was looking for a champion, to further his own future. He wanted a career, for the world to know his name. But when the tribute girl, Lucy Grey, fell into his life, he was picked up on a whirlwind of emotions he didn’t quite understand, and couldn’t quite control. Snow was a stranger to romantic love. It just never really crossed his mind. Sure, he loved Tigris and Grandma’am, but that was a different kind of love.

Snow didn’t know what he was experiencing until the night of the interview. When he was clued in by his jealousy of the unknown lover from the song. He tried to justify the feeling as wanting to win. He tried to ignore the love. He didn’t know what love was, or how it applied to him.

Then Lucy kissed him, and he gave her the poison. He, perhaps for the first time in his life, showed an abject disregard for the rules. The poison. The handkerchief. He wasn’t sure what he was doing.

Fast forward to District Twelve, with Coriolanus as a Peacekeeper and Lucy as a star singer from the Covey. Coriolanus had already sacrificed the life he had known for the sake of Lucy Grey, and he wasn’t sure how much more he was willing to give up. He envisioned this perfect world, where he and Lucy could be together, and he could have his career. Both. Because he was too afraid to choose.

But the world chose for him. He got kicked out from his old life, and he found himself chasing the only familiar thing. Lucy Grey.

Then came Mayfair. He killed her in a moment of blind panic, but he knew he had crossed a line that couldn’t be uncrossed. Killing Bobbin was in self-defense, but killing Mayfair wasn’t.

Coriolanus didn’t mean to kill Sejanus Plinth. He was still naïve, coming from a world where things were relatively safe. He was trying to keep him alive, but the fact that the Capitol killed him opened him up to the fact that outright defiance might not be a choice he was willing to make.

He then chose to do exactly what he had told Sejanus not to: he was going to run away.

But it turned out that he didn’t like his decision. He had let his heart lead him, and he didn’t like where it led. So he chose to let his head lead him from now on. In a world where he could have either Lucy Grey or his career, he chose his career.

If Lucy Grey and Coriolanus Snow had met somewhere else, maybe anywhere else, things could’ve ended differently. But because of their situation, it never worked out. Because there was just too much that went wrong.

Snow doesn’t always land on top.

Snow never landed on top, he lost everything the moment he gained everything

Did Snow Love Lucy Gray?

Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird are a subversion of the “love redeems” trope. Love absolutely can redeem, but it cannot make our choices for us. Coriolanus did love Lucy Gray and he did feel empathy and softness for others - but he chose to squash those feelings down over and over in favor of his obsession with power and control and dominance. If Snow never felt that then there would’ve been no choice in his villainy but he was and he chose evil and that makes him so much worse. Yes, it wasn’t a “pure” or selfless love he had for Lucy Gray, he was a little possessive control freak even then and I doubt he would’ve been able to fall in love with Lucy Gray had she not been initially presented to him as “belonging to him” and “his girl”. But he did empathize and feel bad when she was hurt, he thought of her safety and tried to help her even when he was also terrified, all things “President Snow” would never let himself feel.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is Coriolanus Snow‘s coming-of-age story, he is deciding what he wants and who he is and like many teenagers he has conflicting desires and feelings and traits and hasn’t figured out who he is and what choices he will make yet. The adults around Coriolanus are abusive fascists who will not tolerate him being anything less than them. His friends and his peers like Sejanus and Lucy Gray are compassionate and rebellious. Coriolanus desires for control and success and prestige. He also desires for passion and freedom and love. He gets joy from order and dominance, he also gets joy from Lucy Gray, her music, her spirit, and the affection and warmth they share. He wants the approval of the monstrous people around him, he also fears them and wants to protect his friends from them. All of these exist at once but it the end Coriolanus choses power over love because power made him feel safe and love made him feel afraid.

That is the defining difference between Coriolanus and Katniss, they’re both capable of love but Katniss was brave enough to choose to love and care in a world where those with power are sadistic and brutal and use everything you dare to love against you - and Coriolanus was not. He was not evil because he wasn’t capable of good, he chose evil out of fear and cowardice contrasting Katniss’ brave and persevering goodness. That is a refreshingly truthful depiction of evil in my opinion.

Just a silly little scene idea

Pen: *waking up enlaced in Colin’s arms* COLIN!
Colin: My love, it is too early in the morning for screaming. It’s still dark out.
Pen: Colin, it’s not early it’s night out! My mother will be looking for me!!
Colin: Relax, I’ve snuck into your room every night for two weeks and your mother has no clue you. She will hardly notice you didn’t come home for dinner.
Anthony, opening the door: I assure you Lady Featherington, Penelope is not in Colin’s bedchamber…
Colin: WE ARE ENGAGED!
Portia: Finally, you have only been sneaking into my house every night for two weeks!
Anthony:Dear God I need a drink!

I keep re-imagining Charlotte & George’s dialogue to fit Penelope & Colin. Colin insisting he wants to marry Penelope after she heard him say he didn’t even want to court her. And Penelope trying to insist she doesn’t want to marry him to push Colin away because she doesn’t want to burden him with protecting her if her Whistledown secret is revealed:

Penelope: I do not want you here. Go. Leave.

Colin: No. You cannot force me away. I will not go. I will stay.

Penelope: You are not listening to me.

Colin: I am. I have heard that you wish I had not come. That you want me to go. That you do not want to see me. What I have not heard is that you do not love me.

Penelope: I’m trying to protect you.

Colin: I have been suffering and alone and believing I am a failure because you stay from me as though I am a disease. And then today it suddenly occurred to me that perhaps there is another reason. A better reason. Perhaps you stay away from me because you care for me… because you love me.

Penelope: I cannot… please stop.

Colin: Do you love me?

Penelope: I cannot give you the future that you deserve! I did not even ask for a husband! But if I must have one, it cannot be for a lie… You do not wish a life with me for yourself. No one wishes that.

Colin: Is it because you do not believe that I could love you? I do. I love you.

Penelope: This is who I am… I am a danger. You can leave me. I would understand… and I would let you go.

Colin: First you have to tell me. If you do not love me all you have to say is that you do not love me, and I will go. We can live our separate lives. I will make due and fill my days and survive. All on my own. But first you have to say that you do not love me. You have to tell me that I am alone… do you love me?

Penelope: I have loved you desperately from the moment I saw you.

Colin: I will not leave you.

Penelope: You should.

Colin: I will not. I never want you to feel alone… I love you. We are a team. I shall never leave your side.

Penelope: Thank you.

Colin: You never need to thank me.

A NEED, DEFINITELY A FCKING NEED

Most surprising thing about discovering the Bridgeton fandom is seeing how many don’t see the LW articles about Colin and Eloise as absolutely genuine and selfless. She saved her friends AFTER trying to help them as Pen. I am more confused than Colin understanding feelings.

Season 3 Predictions
I think Colin and Penelope will be able to get away with their “lessons” for a while because no one will be looking at them. Francesca is out in society so she will be Violet’s main focus. And if Violet managed to marry off Anthony surely she can marry of Benedict, right? I don’t think she wishes to push Colin back on the marriage mart after Marina. Portia will be so occupied trying to find a husband for Prudence, Penelope will again slip through her gaze. And cue these two idiots making out in a drawing room in the middle of the afternoon

i don't talk nearly enough about how great Colin is

-excellent fencer, clearly dedicated to it. great taste in puffy shirts 10/10

-brave af!!!! idk about you, but the very idea of being out at sea for several months pretty much w/ no one who knows me scares the soul out of me. bruh is out here on a ship headed to a completely unfamiliar place w/ not one shred of fear

-he's such a good brother? the way he supported Benny was so sweet? and all his little quips with Eloise? they are the sarcastic siblings for SURE. boxing with Greg? playing hoops w/ Hyacinthe? his 'I'm clearly Daphne's favorite'? i adore him

-calling Anthony an ass in defense of Marina was ICONIC

-let's be honest, he was a real one w/ Marina all around. boi was out here defending her left right and center. and that scene where they go 'That's a. . .rather long engagement. . .' 'Or simply romantic! :D ' was adorable. then his 'Why does anyone, marry, Brother? For love.' line? so earnest! heart in his hands!!! and even after it all went kaboom he didn't say a bad word about her. told her he would still have married her if she just told him and he meant it. said that with his whole chest, too. got a reality check from her when he visited and then when asked STILL said 'we could have done more for her' KING 👏 SHIT. may we all have an ex that respects us this much

-canonically the best dancer out of the Bridgerbunch

-loves his mum with all his heart and soul. that scene where he's walking her up the stairs and they're joking around is so wholesome. that scene where Violet is looking for someone to escort her and A and B all flee the scene but Colin steps up? our boy is so sweet

-his scene w/ Jack where he's all puffed up and imposing and tall af going 'how dare you take advantage of them??? fix this shit, NOW' and then turning around and bashfully going 'i rehearsed that speech for hours' when he and Pen could talk privately again WAS ADORABLE, don't even TRY to deny it

-multitalented! our boy can do it all: he sings! he dances! he writes! he drinks his respect women juice on the daily! he fences! he's fluent in sarcasm! he rides horseback! he has anxiety! he's a flirt! he can't stop snacking! are you not entertained?

-also his scene w/ Will where he's like 'no, i fucked up, i insulted you and i messed with your business. i'm sorry and i'm making it right' was sexy as hell. he didn't have to, he could have totally just let it slide under the rug, but he took accountability and made amends

-speaking of sexy: our little rule breaker! holds Penelope's hands in front of everybodyyyy! no glove no love, who? writes her (love) letters while he travels! doesn't give a fuck about propriety! does drugs! I LOVE HIM

-so much integrity. when he messes up he takes full responsibility for it. he's nice as hell to Phillip, encourages his interests, nerds out with him. Stuck his whole neck out for the Featheringtons Pen. 'Do you think I would care that she loved someone else before? That would make me a hypocrite' apologizing to Pen before leaving for his tour. telling her she inspires him. is always there to escort his mum. everything good.

-lost and aimless, my beloved. he's just a dweeb putting on a front and it's so wonderfully relatable

-i love his hero complex. yeah, i said it!!! Dancing with Pen after Cressida spills the drink? HOT. Getting Marina away from the old dude clearly making her uncomfortable? HOT. Standing up to Jack? HOT. Getting Kate and Anthony to trudge along after that Pal Mall game? HOT. Daphne coming to him in the middle of the night demanding to know about the duel and him getting on a horse and heading out with her? HOT.

-he's sarcastic as hell. 'She likes me MUCH better than you, Benedict' 'Maybe he's still at the altar waiting for Miss Edwina' 'Of course not, you are *clearly* sober', Anthony: 'I wish to apologize' 'Are there locusts in the streets??? Blood in the Thames? Is the end of days upon us already?????' 'our host looks a bit fussy. do you think if he goes to bed we all have to leave?' and, of course 'Have you ever visited a farm?'

-he's just a lil shit w/ a heart of gold, how can you not love him?

He is idiot but he's our idiot... Well, Pen's idiot

SMB Chapter 12 progress update:

Philippa & Prudence humbly request I name this chapter 'Colin fucking Bridgerton' 😂😂

Enjoy a sneak peek for chapter 12:

They drowned her in citrus yellow, hoping to dull her shine so rakes and vultures wouldn’t dare approach. They were callous with their words and dismissive with their description of her so Penelope could stay safely in the shadows. They ruined ladies who attempted to sully Penelope’s name out of jealousy by seeing them trapped and damned in unhappy circumstances. They protected their sister exactly as their mother taught them.

But there was always one who outmanoeuvred their every ploy.

Colin fucking Bridgerton.

“I should have had Robert arrange a happy incident that would have seen him lost at sea,” Prudence sneered.

“And what would you do when sweet Penelope discovers the truth?” Philippa lazily hummed.

Predictably, Prudence said nothing in response. Philippa felt her lips curl into a smirk. It was always a pleasure to see her hot-headed elder cower. It was rare but so very amusing to witness.

Wait, wait, wait. I just had a funny idea and need to write it down.

Technically could take place in the spouses friend group as a what if.

So same as the friend group, Penelope is childhood friends with the Bridgertons, she dips out of high society when she enters college. There she meets Michael and Phillip, and later the rest of the spouses as they form their friend group.

The what if is when Penelope reenters the Bridgertons' lives. Eloise and Francesca are excited to have their old friend back and are enjoying catching up with her.

BUT THEN COLIN HAD TO GO AND SEDUCE HER! WHAT THE HELL COLIN SHE JUST GOT BACK! SHARE! YOU GLUTTON!

Grumpy now Eloise comes up with the brilliant idea to seduce Colin's friends! See how he likes it!

"One problem El," Francesca said. "Colin isn't in one place long enough to have friends."

Eloise huffed but then remembered the internet duh! Scrolling through her brother's personal instagram she managed to find two profiles that had actually been there a while, about a year before Eloise started college, and Colin had followed them back!

A one Mr. Michael Stirling and a Mr. Phillip Crane.

Eloise sent Francesca after Michael since he owned a piano bar it would be easier for her to get in for an audition and start a friendship. Eloise herself went to Phillip, who owned a plant nursery. Huh this should be interesting.

Flash forward and uh oh people caught feelings. The two couples are actually serious enough where Violet is demanding they bring their new beaus to the family picnic.

Anthony and Benedict were about to proceed with questioning Michael and Phillip when a gasp was heard behind them.

Colin and Penelope had arrived.

What no one expected was for Penelope to rush forward and begin inspecting Michael and Phillip like they were injured.

"Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Do I need to call Kate and Sophie?"

Later they find out that Michael and Phillip were Penelope's friends/roommates/brother figures. When asked why they followed Colin's personal instagram Michael revealed that during the first year they all knew each other Penelope let it slip that she used to have a crush on Colin. It was during a game of drunk truth or dare. Michael then proceeded to follow Colin from the instagram he saw on Penelope's old account, and did the same with Phillip's after stealing Phillip's phone.

"We had to make sure he was good enough for Penny," Michael defended him.

Phillip rolled his eyes. "That was all him. We never unfollowed after though because we liked the travel pictures Colin posted."

Anthony raised an eyebrow at Colin. "And why did you follow back to strangers?"

Colin shrugged. "It was not the first time I made a connection while drunk and I figured I met them in a bar and forgot about it. Plus I like Michael's drink recipes. and Phillip's plant facts."

Young Colin: Will you marry me?

Baby Penelope: Why?

Young Colin: So we can eat wedding cake!

Baby Penelope: Is it chocolate cake?

Young Colin: Who cares! It's this big, and it's got frosting!

John: So what did you and Friedrich do when you visited Jo at the hospital?
Laurie: We’re playing Scrabble. It’s a nightmare.
John: Scrabble? Scrabble’s great.
Laurie: Not when you’re playing with Friedrich, it’s not. He put words like “ephemeral” and I put “dog.”

Bridgerton Incorrect Quotes

*The day of Colin and Penelope’s wedding*
Violet: This is best day of my life!!
Lady Danbury: You have eight kids, Violet—
Violet: I SAID WHAT I SAID
Lady Danbury: Alright…

The rest of Bridgerton siblings: yeah, and so is ours, finally

Why does soulmates have to always be linked romantically? I am sure my bestie is my soulmate yet, I am certainly not in love with her
