🌟 New

  • On web, we’ve removed the option to delete your account from your primary blog’s settings. Account deletion can still be performed via your account settings.
  • We’ve rolled out some visual changes in the iOS and Android apps to how reblog information is displayed in post headers. These changes have been live on the web for a while, now it’s in the apps!
  • In the public API, we’ve added a new field to the Post object, “parent_post_url”, pointing to the reblog’s parent post (often referred to as the “prev” post).

🛠 Fixed

  • We’ve fixed a bug that was preventing the DuckDuckGo browser on Android phones from being able to copy links to posts.

🌟 New

  • We’ve added a new blog setting to control who can mention your blog in posts and replies. The options are: everyone (default), no one, just who you’re following, or just your mutuals.

🛠 Fixed

  • Fixed a bug that was preventing posts with tags from being indexed by search properly when editing them from private to public.

🚧 Ongoing

  • There’s an issue in the latest version of the iOS app that’s preventing screen readers from being able to read direct message text. We’ll have a fix for this in version 32.6 of the app.
  • We’re aware of an issue that’s causing the Following feed to abruptly end if you’re following the Radar blog. We’re working on fixing this up as quickly as we can.

🌱 Upcoming

  • On web, we’re working to move the “Delete account” button from your primary blog’s settings page to the Account settings page, to help prevent people from accidentally deleting their whole account.

🌟 New

  • Starting today, Post+ can no longer be enabled on blogs. In case you missed it: Post+ will be going away in January. You can read more here.
  • The option to pause (and resume) your queue is now available if you’re using the experimental Queue 2.0 options on web.
  • The options to shuffle, pause, and resume your queue are now available in the iOS app (version 32.3+)
  • The flow for Blazing a post on iOS has been redesigned to be easier to use (starting in version 32.3 of the iOS app).
  • When you receive a push notification about a recommended blog, tapping that notification will now take you directly to that blog instead of a little preview of that blog in your “Following” tab.
  • It’s that time of the year: Tumblr Year in Review 2023 is up! Head over to @fandom to check it out.

🛠 Fixed

  • Yesterday, there was an issue that caused it to appear like you automatically followed back any blog that followed you (no auto-follow backs actually happened). The follow back was just a display error, and we’ve cleared that up. If you want to become mutuals with that blog that followed you, you’ll have to go click that “Follow” button yourself.
  • The aforementioned iOS app update to address frequent crashes has been released.
  • The little notification that shows for folks using an unsupported browser is no longer obscured by the login/sign up footer on the logged out Explore page.
  • We fixed an issue on web where sometimes in-blog search results would be displayed as unstyled text.
  • Also on web, we fixed an issue on the “Your tags” tab that caused the location of the tag filter modal to be affected by scroll position. It now displays correctly (in the center of the screen).

🌟 New

  • We’ve created a guide to writing a PHP script to access Tumblr, with an example of creating a way to list your mutuals and sort your followed blogs by last posting time. Check it out here.
  • The flow for Blazing a post on Android has been redesigned to be easier to use.
  • On web, using an old keyboard shortcut (ALT+C, ALT+R, or ALT+Q) no longer triggers a notification about what the new shortcut is. As a final reminder, the shortcut to create a new post is now just C, while the shortcuts to instantly reblog or queue the post in view are SHIFT+R and SHIFT+Q, respectively.

🛠 Fixed

  • Dashboard feeds and blogs weren’t showing posts for a little while earlier today, but we’ve fixed the issue. Reach out to Support if you’re still experiencing any trouble.
  • On web, we fixed an issue where the Explore page would not reload properly after logging in.
  • On web, we’ve fixed the timestamps on instant messages so that “Today” actually means “Today”, and not “under 24 hours ago”. Alternate description: The timestamps on instant messages no longer perform time travel.

🚧 Ongoing

  • The iOS app is crashing for some folks (specifically those using older devices). We’ve fixed the issue in an app update, which is currently under review. It’ll be released as soon as we get the green light from Apple.

🌟 New

  • We’re no longer using the href.li redirection service for links in Tumblr posts.

🛠 Fixed

  • On web, we’ve fixed a bug where the queue page would always display the UTC publish date on posts, making it seem like some posts were scheduled for one day before or one day later than their actual set publish time.
  • We’ve fixed an issue with our link preview generator which prevented Etsy links from becoming link blocks in posts.
  • We’ve fixed a crash on web which could occur when shopping for badges in your blog settings.
  • Password reset emails were taking a while to send on Wednesday. We’ve patched that up, so you should get them just as quickly as before.

🌟 New

  • There are a handful of new blog badges in TumblrMart! These ones are focused on some prime bits of Tumblr nostalgia.
  • We’ve got a new keyboard shortcut on the web: when in your inbox, hit the A key while you’ve got an ask (or submission) in view, and you’ll open the answer form (or edit form for submissions).
  • We’ve updated the Discord notifications for new mentions of your blog with some more context about the post or reply you’re being mentioned in.

🛠 Fixed

  • We’re aware that one of the latest version of the iOS app (32.2) was crashing for people still using iOS 15. The very latest version of the app, 32.2.1, releasing today, fixes this crash.
  • We’ve fixed a bug with the GDPR consent banner on blogs that now prevents it from popping up over and over again after you’ve given consent.

🌟 New

  • On web, we’ve added a keyboard shortcut for deleting posts. Hit the D key while you’ve got a post in view, and you’ll see the “Are you sure you want to delete this post?” prompt (if it’s a post that you can delete).
  • Also on web, we added the ability to pause (and resume!) your blog’s queue. The button can be found at the top of your blog’s queue page, along with the rest of your queue settings. One quick note: If you have Queue 2.0 enabled (in Labs), you’ll need to disable it in order to see the pause/resume button.

🛠 Fixed

  • When using Tumblr in a mobile web browser, blog mention suggestions now fill the full width of the dropdown.

🌟 New

  • In the latest iOS app, Activity will now display a follower relationship if one exists and clear out highlighted new items after navigating away.
  • In the latest iOS app, the default color palette will now match iOS’s light or dark mode when logging in or signing up.

🛠 Fixed

  • We found a few instances where filtered tags were not preventing some posts from appearing. This has been corrected and filtered tags will now work on all posts.
  • We fixed a few visual glitches when searching for Audio while writing or editing a post on the web.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re aware of an issue preventing refunds in some cases and fixing that is a top priority. If you requested a refund and do not see the credit on your statement within 10 business days, please contact Support!
  • We’re aware of an issue in the iOS app where the lightbox does not load the largest version of the image. We’re working on a fix for this now.

🌟 New

  • You can now change your default dashboard tab between “Following” and “For you” by going to your dashboard tab configuration settings (it’s in the tab bar itself) and pinning one or the other. This is out to everyone now on web, and everyone using version 31.9+ of the iOS app or version 31.8+ of the Android app. Setting your default tab on any platform updates the other platforms the next time you reload them.
  • On web, group blogs that have the “Show author portraits” option enabled now have the author portrait visible in the post header, as well as the group blog’s avatar. (This is how it worked with the larger floating avatars, but has now been included in all places we use the smaller avatars in headers.)
  • We’ve made some visual tweaks to the reply input’s blog selector, to help make it more obvious that you can click it to select other blogs than your primary blog.

🛠 Fixed

  • We’ve improved the contrast ratio for the close button when viewing a blog or post in a popup on the site. It was using the blog’s theme colors, but we’ve updated it to force better contrast when a blog is using a low contrast color combination.
  • We fixed a visual glitch happening in Safari that could cause the left and right arrows in blog and tag recommendation carousels to flicker when hovering over them with your mouse.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re aware of a very rare issue which can make 1:1 direct messaging conversations unusable if one blog accidentally blocks and then unblocks the other participant. Unblocking the other blog should make the conversation work again, we’re not sure why it’s not. If this has happened to you, please reach out to Support and we can help fix the conversation manually!

🌟 New

  • On web, we’ve rolled out an interface change that adds a meatball/ellipsis menu on each reblog trail item’s header in a reblog. This menu allows you to report, block, copy a permalink, and more, for that specific reblog trail item.

🛠 Fixed

  • Some images on Tumblr, and Tumblr itself, were failing to load for a lot of people yesterday. We fixed the issue as quickly as we could!
  • On web, we fixed some visual inconsistencies with the reply button and new replies in certain color palettes.
  • When logged out and visiting Explore, the Cybernetic color palette glitch animation now respects the browser or system’s “reduce motion” setting, disabling the animation if “reduce motion” is enabled.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re aware of an issue in the very latest Android app (32.0.0) that can cause the app to crash when viewing certain ask/answer posts. We’re rolling out a fix in the next version, 32.0.1, which should be rolling out to everyone soon!

🌱 Upcoming

  • We’ll be running an experiment where some users have the ability to switch their default dashboard tab between “Following” and “For you”, before we roll this change out to everyone. We run brief tests like this with a small set of you to help catch bugs before we release it to more people. Stay tuned for more updates!

  • Since blognames are all lowercase, your blog’s Followers search is no longer case-sensitive.
  • We’ve fixed an issue on web where an autosaved draft could end up with partially corrupted video data. If you’ve noticed that any of your uploaded videos fail to play on custom themes, particularly those that were originally in the .mov format, please try reuploading them now!
  • We’ve fixed an issue where, when reblogging a post through a browser on a mobile device, it was not possible to scroll the list of blogs when choosing which blog to reblog to.
  • We’ve fixed an issue which caused Safari to scroll to the top of the Dashboard whenever you either clicked an image or tried to reblog a post.
  • We’ve also fixed a few visual glitches that affected Safari when browsing in portrait orientation on an iPad.

  • We’re aware of an ongoing issue that may prevent some users who have “What You Missed” and “In Your Orbit” turned on from receiving these recommendations.
  • We’re aware of an issue where Notes from suspended blogs might not be cleared from your total unread Activity. If that’s happening to you, please contact support, thanks!

  • We’re slowly rolling out the option to report problematic ads that show in the right side of your dash – check for the option under the three dots in the top right corner.

  • We’ve fixed the issue causing the incident yesterday that prevented queued/scheduled posts from publishing.
  • And we’ve fixed an issue that was causing a -1 or ⏳ as the “Liked posts” count for some people. If you still see it, it will disappear the next time we recalculate your likes.
  • On web, we’ve disabled autoplay for Twitch embeds.

Update: queued/scheduled posts are publishing at the normal rate again!

We're still working to fix the issues with the liked posts count for some people. The ⏳ is actually intentional: it means we're recalculating your liked posts count. But it shouldn't show up for more than a few seconds.

We'll provide another update here when this has cleared up!

  • We’ve added support for embedding Instagram Reels. When posting, use either the Link block or the Video block with the “Add video from web” option and paste the URL of the Reel, or just paste the URL of the Reel onto a new line.

🛠 Fixed

  • We’ve fixed an issue that was preventing Trending topics from updating in Explore since last Friday.
  • We’ve fixed a few layout glitches affecting Safari when browsing from an iPad.

  • We’re aware of an issue in the iOS app that has broken screen reader support for post content. We’re working to fix this as quickly as we can and release a new version of the app with the fix.

🌟 New

  • We’re rolling out the ability to reply to posts as a sideblog across all platforms. Next to the reply input field, you can click/tap on the avatar to change what blog you’re replying as. All blogs are eligible, including group blogs, except for password protected blogs or blogs blocked by the post’s author. This is rolled out to everyone on the web, and for folks with version 31.6 or higher of the mobile apps.
  • We’ve also updated our “It’s time to update your app” notification banner in the mobile apps, for folks who are using (very) outdated versions. If you see that banner, then you’re using a version of the app that we explicitly no longer support, and it may stop working altogether until you update.

🛠 Fixed

  • We fixed a bug in Safari that was causing scrollbars to overlap with content in the masonry view of feeds like Explore, if you have your mac’s “Show scroll bars” setting set to “Always”.
  • We fixed a bug on the Likes view on web that was causing the expanded post to disappear if you went from Grid view to List view.

🚧 Ongoing

  • We’re aware of an issue in the iOS app that has broken screen reader support for post content. We’re working to fix this as quickly as we can and release a new version of the app with the fix.
  • We’re also aware of a technical issue that’s been preventing Trending topics from updating in Explore since Friday. We’re working to get those populated again as quickly as we can.

  • You probably already noticed if you use Tumblr on your phone, but we have a spooky glorpy new app icon for Tumblr on iOS and Android!

🛠 Fixed

  • The next release of the iOS app contains a fix for the previously-reported issue of the activity count not updating properly when receiving new activity while using the app.
  • On web, opening the ask form now correctly focuses the text cursor in the ask field. Similarly, clicking the reply button now focuses the text cursor in the reply field once the notes view opens.
  • On web, we’ve fixed an issue that was preventing the “Follow” button from appearing next to blogs you don’t follow, in some cases.

  • We’re working on setting up some logic to limit push notifications when a post of yours goes viral, and we’re interested in getting volunteers to help figure out what the best thresholds are. If you want to help, reach out in the replies!
