Not gonna lie it’s really frustrating when people gush over Jessie but say unnecessary things about Christy when we don’t actually know either of them. I just don’t get it. 🤷🏼♀️
I don’t like doing these kinds of things because it makes me feel like I’m begging for handouts or something. But I need help.
In the 6 days that we’ve been back in the classroom, I’m already out of a jumbo container of Clorox wipes and the pack of disinfectant wipes provided to us by the district. Pretty much the only place that has any in stock is at this website here. They have a single pack of 50 count disinfectant wipes for regular $2.99 a pack. Our instructional supply money has finally been put into our accounts but we don’t know yet if we can buy cleaning supplies with it. These wipes are the same wipes that were in our PPE kits, but a different brand. I have plenty of sprays to use but the time that comes with using the sprays is hard to manage with first graders that are only out of the classroom a couple of times. And we have to use disinfectant wipes with their chromebooks, our laptop, the desktop computers, basically anything that has “high traffic areas” but with little hands (and the occasional sneeze, let’s be real here, these are first graders.)
So, if you would like to purchase a pack of these disinfectant wipes to donate to my classroom, I’d be forever grateful. The link (again, here) takes you straight to the page for the wipes. Since it’s a school supply store, it’s safer to order these kind instead of buying from somewhere else, other than Clorox wipes (which are out pretty much everywhere unfortunately.) If you’d like to do this for a drowning first grade classroom, message me for the address the wipes can be shipped to. And if you can’t or don’t want to, can you please reblog this post? Because even that I’d be grateful for!
A picture for reference:
postcard friend
link’s only friend as a kid ends up moving to georgia. they’re young, not even in kindergarten yet, and gregg just up and moves, leaves him alone with all the kids at daycare that pick on him. of course he cries about it and goes to his mama and she helps him figure something out: postcards! they’ll send a postcard to gregg’s new georgia address and it’ll be like he never left.
little link of course is ecstatic to know he can still keep in touch with his friend. he’s up bright and early the first sunday after gregg leaves because his mama promised they’d go to the dollar store and find his first postcard before church. in the store, he makes a beeline for the postcards sitting on a spinny rack by the birthday cards. it only takes him a few minutes to pick one out that he knows gregg will like–a hunting dog just like the one his parents had–and drag his mama to the checkout. he’s determined he’s the one that’s going to pay for it so he slaps his quarters down as far as he can reach and happily leaves with his postcard clutched in his hands.

With all the events going on recently I think it’s time to post this image againbc i’m tired of this shit
Thanks, I really needed this today!
one fairly common experience of gifted children is wishing for pain. wishing you had some great big horrible thing in your past so that you can justify the pain you’re in, and so that you’ll deserve help. it’s exhausting and it fucks you up and to anyone out there who feels like they haven’t suffered enough to get help: you’re allowed to want help. you’re in enough pain. you deserve to feel better
holy shit yeah
is this one of those things that everyone actually does?? i just assumed i was a shitty person
Wait that’s normal?
It’s not “normal” as in “everybody feels this way so suck it up and quit whining”.
It’s “normal” as in “many people experience pain, loneliness, anxiety, self-hatred, and other symptoms of mental illness that feel like they ‘don’t count’ because there’s no real Thing they can point to to explain it, but their pain and suffering are real and ought to be taken seriously.”
However, when I say “many people” I actually mean “less than a quarter of the population”. The vast majority of people aren’t in massive internal pain most of the time. If this post resonates with you, I super recommend you look into mental health resources, because nobody deserves to feel this way, and there’s a very real hope that information, understanding, therapy, and/or medication can work together to help you feel better.
Fantasizing about being hurt or dying in some way so that everyone realizes how much pain you’re in isn’t a sign that you’re a terrible person. It’s a sign that YOU’RE IN A LOT OF PAIN. Pain that deserves help and that CAN be helped.
The notes on this post today make me wanna CRY.
Oh well this explains a lot of my life.
re: the mythical census
mythical is a company. a company that primarily creates content but also has a rather big sales branch. a company has to assess its target audience from time to time, especially if they’re in entertainment or retail. their biggest source of income is ad revenue. of course, they have to optimise everything to get the most profit.
they’re a de facto company. not even that small, if we’re being honest. to maintain it, you need money. not even in a greedy way. they need money to sustain themselves: pay the employees, upkeep the studio, buy props, finance episodes and projects. they basically launched a side venture (mythical kitchen) that is also fairly costly, and as such, needs funds.
this romanticised idea that some people still seem to have of Rhett and Link just making things for fun doesn’t exist and I’m unsure that it ever did. this is their job. even if it was just the two of them plus a small crew, it would still need to be financed. but they always wanted to make this their job and their livelihoods, even when it was three, four, five people involved only. they were always professionals. they’re one of YouTube flagship entertainers - now, and always have been.
optimising their advertising does lead to them having more money, which in turn leads to us having better, more ambitious, more entertaining content. FOR FREE. the majority of what they create has always been free. at this day and age, that’s a luxury to have as a consumer.
the information you’re asked to provide in the survey isn’t even only for marketing purposes. by evaluating data like age and entertainment preferences (music, tv and film) they can also determine the type of specific content that’s potentially going to do better on the channel.
intentionally providing sarcastic or irrelevant answers in protest is not only useless and disrespectful, actively setting the work back, but also makes you waste your time for nothing. filling out the survey is entirely optional. if you don’t want to partake, just don’t. it’s fine.
if you’re worried about your information not handled safely, might i remind you that the questionnaire ends with the option to opt out from your data being sold to a third party. you can also read their privacy policy to be sure.
the amount of time we all spend the internet not even realising how much of our browsing habits are being stored and observed and then sold is astounding. and much more worrisome. take measures against that, if it’s a concern. and it should be. you’re monitored everywhere you go, especially if your starting points are big platforms like google, facebook or twitter.
i recommend ublock origin (ad blocking extension) and privacy badger (tracker blocking extension) for a start, also the privacytools reddit.) duckduckgo, which is a non-profit, privacy-oriented search engine with several additional features also deserves a mention.
mythical is not a greedy, unethical company - they have proven numerous times to be ethical, caring, and engaging, cultivating an active relationship with their base, lead and managed by two exceptionally good and savvy men. but they are a company, a business, and they sometimes do things that companies and businesses have to do.
If you’ve somehow missed MatPat trying his hardest to create a better space for creators on YouTube, i’m urging you to look into his video from today where he cites how him and a group of large content creators (including Rhett and Link!!) are trying to make YouTube better for all creators on the platform.
MatPat is one of the good ones. 👏🏼
“we couldn’t have sex so we were square dancing” is my new favorite out of context ear biscuit quote
However you feel about today's episode is okay.
It's okay to be upset if you were included in the episode and okay to be upset if you weren't included but wanted to be and okay to be upset if you weren't included and didn't want to be.
All of those things are okay.
It is also okay to have enjoyed it.
But please, don't go out of your way to trash the crew that was involved or the writers involved or anything else? Like. Be your mythical best please.
Kindness is vital.
Perhaps by now you’re used to me using this blog as a platform when i have something important to say that a lot of people would agree with or benefit from, so I hope you don’t mind that this is one of those posts again.
One of Rhett and Link’s main messages is to be kind to one another and to be curious about one another and the world around you. As such, I cannot possibly fathom how someone (admittedly a fan, or a Mythical Beast, if you will) could willingly be unkind. And yet, time and time again, someone is.
It’s one thing to have differences in fandom, which is completely normal. To a degree, so is disliking someone that you share the fandom space with - you cannot possibly love every single person around. But to decidedly criticise and talk down on people who have been trying to spread a positive message and have been trying to connect everyone, is vile.
It is selfish and has no other intention than to cause a stir.
It is something I will never condone and always raise my word against.
Initiatives to spread love and appreciation should be applauded if not followed. Even if you don’t participate, it takes an especially mean and destructive personality to deliberately try and paint those in a negative light.
The people who are, against all odds and against all occasional disruptions, constantly trying to maintain a positive air in the fandom are doing an important and admirable job. If you have issues with that, the problem is within you, and not those who put effort into making others feel loved and valued.
Let’s all strive to be better and not allow the negativity to take over.
