the sheer amount of artistic talent put into these panels to portray the right feeling on clark’s face is amazing
None of the images in the notes look like eachother but they all look like Clark wtf
Every time this graces my dash I can’t help but laugh until I’m on the verge of tears
This is so funny what
At first I thought it was just a really funny guy giving a tutorial for ppl who didn’t know how to run bc the title didn’t say IN PLACE but when the supermarket came up I was like OH WAIT that make WAY more sense
Maybe misusing the name of God isn’t so much about saying the shallow words, “Oh my God,” as it is about using the name of God to justify discrimination, oppression, injustice, racism, slavery, xenophobia, poverty, sexism, islamophobia, ableism, homophobia, war, & the list can go on.
I wrote a college paper once about gender dynamics in Disney films, and part dealt with the emphasis of androgyny in this film. Mulan is an outsider and unsure of her position of the world when she is adhering to both a total feminine role (the matchmaking scene) and a total masculine role (disguised as a male soldier) and it’s only when she’s able to embrace both sides that she is able to fully showcase her abilities and ultimately save the day.
The entire climax, from climbing the poles using sashes, counting on Shan Yu’s complete dismissal of women to get the Emperor to safety, to this scene where she literally uses a symbol of womanhood (within the movie at least) to disarm the villain of his symbol of masculinity and beat him at his own game, shows Mulan relying on the aspects of her femininity that she has grown up adhering to and adapting the tactical knowledge and fighting skills that she learned disguised as a male soldier to those aspects. The result is a unique and innovative view of the world and her course of action that leads her to save the day when the male soldiers failed and the women wouldn’t even have been allowed to try.
This commentary is so curious to me because it’s such an excellent example of white/western cultural bias in portrayals of other cultures. Because fans by themselves are a gender neutral object in Ancient China, especially the large type that Mulan uses in this particular scene is actually masculine if you must code it historically, and in Chinese hands would be used as a tool to support her masculinity and not the other way around. These paper fans are used in general by (male) scholars and artists who decorate its surface with art and calligraphy. It is a symbol of (masculine) intellectual power and the intellectual elite. And if you look to Asian martial arts films, they are a common and almost exclusive weapon of men.
Yet the movie takes this deeply cultural object and either willingly or ignorantly makes it an object of womanhood or femininity. To the extent of my knowledge, this is mostly reflective of western social history. And draws from the coquettish ways Georgian? Ladies would use the fan to signal their romantic interest and all the history and influence around it. The equivalent object for the Chinese lady would in fact be the handkerchief, or a hairstick if you want something pointy.
And it’s all the more curious because at the end of the day it’s a western depiction of a foreign story made for western consumption. It is not a story made by and for Chinese little girls, but to empower and inspire those in the West. Which provides the context for the above (excellent) analysis. It does not need to fully take Chinese history into context because it was never made for us, despite being explicitly about us.
No one ever make a tiktok again this one's perfect
Oh my god
A guest looking at the timber rattlesnake in the reptile exhibit: Do the snakes have names?
Me: (Launches into my speech about how No, they don’t even though the nonvenomous snakes do, because they’re wild animals and dangerous to handle. The reptile keeper is wary of over-familiarity becoming carelessness, so we don’t give them names as a mark of respect and a reminder of caution.) You can call them anything you want though!
Guest: Oh… That makes sense. I was going to say this one’s name should be Justin. You know, Justin Timbersnake?
Me: I am going into the reptile room this second and asking him to change the name policy
What does it take to teach a bee to use tools? A little time, a good teacher and an enticing incentive. Read more here: http://to.pbs.org/2mpRUAz

“Friend? Friend push ball? I push ball. I do good.”
Bees. Smart enough to push a ball, not smart enough to not be fooled by a stick masquerading as a bee.
maybe they know and they’re just being polite
I’m sure someones already said this but I often see Tumblr described as a hellsite. This is fundamentally incorrect.
Tumblr is the faesite. Everybody is super confused and lost, you keep running into random places. Somehow you end up stuck there forever after interacting a couple of times. The people are all strange, everybody simultaneously seems to be from the future and the past as if time is meaningless.
YES
also technology breaks at random, and sometimes you just suddenly feel a thousand years old
mythbusters was so good because it wasn't a killjoy show. they didn't just say "see, it doesn't work" and leave it there
whenever they find that the stunt doesn't work as portrayed in the movie, they immediately ask "what would it take to make this happen?"
“we know it takes this amount of explosives to work, but what if we doubled it anyway?”
Some myths I'll always remember:
* Are elephants scared of mice? (They only did that because they were in Africa and had access to elephants.)
* Will a bull run amok in a china shop?
* Is it better to run zig-zag or straight when chased by an alligator?
I love these because NONE of them turned out the way they expected. They went into all three with pre-conceived ideas of how it would go, and each time they "failed." Elephants WILL cower from mice. A bull moves very gingerly through a china shop. It doesn't matter how you run because ALLIGATORS WON'T CHASE YOU.
And each time, they reacted with just... pure glee. "Holy shit, we were wrong! Oh my god! This is great! We were so wrong!"
And that, to me, is what science is. Being excited about being wrong because either way it's information.
Hey so my hobby in the last week or so has been of building a giant glass ball in Minecraft, 64 block in diameter, put a wall in its centre and fill one half with water, with lava in the other. Here’s the result :
You can absolutely reblog if you like it, it’s random creation for fun that happens to be pretty [/Image description/: Seven screenshots of a structure in the game Minecraft. A giant, hollow glass sphere stands on an endless plain of sandstone. The sphere is 64 blocks in diameter, with a 2 block thick wall dividing its centre. The left half is filled with lava, creating a glow from inside. The right half is filled with water. The first two screenshots show the sphere during the day and night, using the default textures. The third and fourth shots are similar, but this time using BSL Shaders, adding lifelike realism to the structure, textures and lighting. The remaining pictures are all set at night. The fifth shot shows the detailed reflection of the lava on the glass wall and water, from outside the sphere. The sixth screenshot shows the glow of the lava through the glass wall, from inside the water half. The last picture shows the sphere with the water to the left and lava to the right, the shadowed lava behind the glass wall looking like the pupil of an eye. /End image description/ ]
This post has almost 30k notes, here’s my fave comments :
Wait I forgot the 5th comment type I love : 5. O R B
Another good contender : 6. Put a fish in it! If this post hits 50k I’ll add a fish! 🐟
Cod Starts the Ball!
Squid Soon swirls in!
Puffer pops up!
Tropical? No Trouble!
Salmon Swimming in a sphere!
Y'all want turtles? we got turtles! (and me who forgot to hide my HUD in this pic)
Dancing with the Dolphins!
And finally, I added more of them and made a little aquarium! Really basic, a dreadful lack of substrate if I want to make a real one (and if I do I’ll take a better screenshot)
Thank you for taking such interest in my silly creation. Art and fun comes from a multitude of place, community being one of them!
Where’s that meme which says you’d best start believing in cyber-punk dystopias because you’re living in one?
My anthro professor has three forbidden words for his essays: problematic, interesting, and large. Point being they’re all filler words, he wants you to just skip straight to why it’s interesting or why it’s problematic. But anyway, any time I disagree with him in class I say to him “mm, interesting, but largely problematic.”
You’d think it’d be 32 because he’s got a slight weight advantage, but 856 is the underdog.
but where’s my boy 480 Otis?
480 Otis got out-fatted by 409 Beadnose this year.
My prediction that 856 would be 32 Chunk was wrong.
My money is on 747, the dude is a straight MONSTER

This is the only bracket anyone ever needs to care about all other brackets are cancelled.
once a girl reported me to an administrator at school bc i was breaking dresscode and she didnt like me. so i pushed her down the stairs. i just kept walking and i dont think she saw me and i never got caught. i know she got very seriously injured and they had to call an ambulance and she transferred schools bc she knew SOMEONE pushed her and she didnt feel safe. ive never regretted it. its been years since i graduated and im on mood stabilizers now, but sometimes when someone is testing my patience i calm myself down by thinking about how good it felt to snap once and how i cant do that again bc i would go to prison probably
i forget about this post every time and every time it crosses my dash im just smacked with it again
just to be clear, I’m staying here as long as this site functions. I have 0 intentions of deleting this blog, I will go down with this ship if only to see exactly how bad it gets
