A funny incident happened outside the theater one night. Linda and Elvis were walking around the corner, getting ready to enter the building, and walked past several girls standing in front of the theater on the sidewalk. Surprised by Elvis, one of them asked excitedly, “Are you Elvis?” “Yes, honey, I am,” he replied. Without missing a beat, Linda looked at Elvis and said, “Oh, come on, Charlie, you’re not going to try that old trick again, are you?” pretending that it was not really Elvis. She continued, “He looks like him and gets asked that a lot.” Elvis got flustered and said, “No, I’m really Elvis,” but, by that time, the girls had become convinced that it wasn’t really him. Linda continued pulling Elvis into the theater and as he disappeared inside, he was mumbling, “No, I really am Elvis.” I don’t think the girls ever realized it was him. She could always be counted on to do something funny like that and make it come off so well.
