i think it’s really funny when fandom people make fun of nonfandom people for not recognizing a fandom url. shit like “jackstanifold” or “strifesuccubus” or “hobocop” are not immediately recognizable as fandom references dude

“how did you not immediately recognize tumblr user ‘bigbluesoup’ as a fandom reference 😂” girl how was i expected to.

anyways put in the tags if you have a fandom url and how recognizable you think it is

I think a corollary to this is I don't want my fandom experiences to be unique, I want them to be sincere

That's why I enjoy reading the same tropes over and over again. Those authors are writing those stories from a genuine love of both the tropes and the characters.

It's why I enjoy 17 gif sets about the same 3-second interaction on screen. Each one of those sets was pulled and recoloured and captioned and adjusted because each one of those gif makers wanted to capture that moment and celebrate it.

It's why every "I'm glad you enjoyed it" reply makes me smile when I get one on a comment I left. Because I know replying to comments is hard and kind of awkward, but I also know that the author really *is* glad and I'm happy that I could let them know I enjoyed their work.

I love things that are new, sure. But I also love things that have been done a million times already because I know the person doing it loves that thing too. I love the love they're showing. I love the genuine joy and celebration and community it fills me with.

“I’m like, ‘Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs. If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire?’ No, I don’t think she could,” Robbie said. “She is sexualized. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her. Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”

Margot Robbie said Ace Barbie Rights with her whole chest.

“Death blowing bubbles,” one of the several depictions of death created by Johann Georg Leinberger between 1729 and 1731 for the ceiling of the Holy Grave Chapel in Michaelsberg Abbey in Bamberg, Germany. The bubbles are symbols of the fragility of life.

Eddie Munson making bank on being a 'Rent a weirdo to piss off your parents' guy. He shows up, behaves exactly like himself sometimes, and other times if himself isnt working he'll up the ante and get creative, but he earns his money.

and Steve Harrington who's sick of his parents trying to throw people at him, both women and men, he's in desperate need of a break from it all/

His parents were horrifically supportive when he in a fit of desperation to stop them from throwing more awful women at him, came out as bi, okay, he said he was gay but when they were supportive he adjusted to Bisexual because he actually was bisexual and there was no point lying if his parents were just going to switch it up and throw men at him instead.

John the tennis club owners son was lovely but no.

So he hires Eddie for a 'week long chalet get away', it's Dustin's idea. Eddie's his friend and Dustin vouches for him.

"Just. Pretend to be my boyfriend for the week. You get a free rich people vacation out of it."

"Usually i'm more of a one and done kinda guy, Harrington, you think i'm not up to freakin them out in one go?"

"Freaking them-- no, i need a week of them not trying to set me up with someone, they wont if they think i'm dating, is that okay?"

"... Not my usual schtik but what's the worst that could happen?"

Whats the worst indeed.

hello! i saw a post that some people apparently have used ai to "finish" wips that have been "left too long"... i don't think those people really care about blanket permission (tho i wouldn't call their output "transformative work") but it did come up on the post, so i thought maybe i should ask for clarification? because i personally understood that authors give permission under the assumption that a person would make a thing based on their thing, so i don't know if this should be a further disclaimer (like the goodreads thing) or if it should be taken for granted..

(not to mention that this isn't fic of a fic, its literally finishing someone's writing)

No, you should never do this. Author's put a lot into writing those works, using an A.I to finish them would never be the same as them finishing the fic. An A.I can only "add" from what it knows from scrubbing works that people do not consent to.

Do not use A.I to finish fics that authors abandoned or haven't finished. That is super disrespectful to them.

I understand wanting to see a fic finished and wanting to know the outcome but doing it with A.I would never fulfill that for you. It's merely guessing and adding from multiple different things/works that it's stolen from and might not even make sense. It doesn't know what direction the author was going in, it doesn't know the twists and turns the author was going to add, it doesn't know anything about the author.

An A.I generated fic is Completely Different from a fan-made art or fic based off your work. It's Completely Different than someone asking to finish your work themselves.

A.I is not a "cool way to finish unfinished fics" .

Please don't use A.I on fics just because you are curious about the ending.

It will never be the same as actual human writing. And it is super disrespectful to authors who put time and care into their work.

Sorry if this comes off annoyed, I just really don't like this whole A.I writing fanfic thing lol

This all of this and also I stand by the idea that there is NOTHING intelligent about chatgpt or what's lauded as AI these days. It's just a generator, it's a machine. It has no idea how emotions or human experiences work. It cannot feel, it cannot emote, it cannot learn.

Calling it AI is just the dude bro way of making it sound more than it is. It's theft. It's just plain theft.

When you use an artificial generator to finish someone else work you're basically saying that person is a machine to you. It's fucked up. Art is what's meant to set humans apart from the rest of biological life and yet we are condensing it into a commodity making us no better than an animal and it's so insulting to creators everywhere

damiemontclair said: Also you're feeding the AI new material by putting it in there. Without the writers consent. It enables the theft of writers works by AI.

Yes, to all of this. AI is theft. Pure and simple.

Not only this, but people count fic as “abandoned” when it’s actually on hiatus.

Or even if the author hasn’t updated in a few months (which is common for me given my current life situation) and is a major assumption on the part of the reader. I had one person try to add a fic of mine to an “abandoned works” collection, and it pissed me off.

Unless you have explicit permission from the author, it’s unacceptable. And even then, you need to be up front about using “AI” because that’s a whole other can of worms.

“Oh but I can’t write!” And I can’t draw, but that doesn’t mean I shove a bunch of fanart into the AI grinder and act like what comes out is mine.

Write your own damned fic. Period.

one thing i need to start living by is “become the thing that you want” if i want friends who throw themed parties maybe i should start throwing those parties. if i want someone who writes me love letters maybe i should start writing letters for the people i love. if i want to hang out at museums and pretty cafes maybe i should invite my friends to these places. and maybe even then i won’t find the kind of people i want to be around. but then i would have become the exact person i want to be around. and maybe that’s good enough.

telling butch lesbians to “be ugly” when rejecting feminine beauty standards is nice but butchness is something that lesbians find beautiful and desirable so maybe instead of telling butches to accept that they are ugly in a het world tell them that they dont have to live in a world where they’re considered ugly. you dont have to accept being ugly bc you arent ugly to us.
