“On my darkest days I close the curtains. I pretend it’s midnight at 4 in the afternoon. The dark settles in and I call it home. Night lies down beside me and we wait each other out. I imagine we’d share secrets or swap stories but there’s nothing to talk about. We’ve been here before. We know each other’s habits. Night always sits still and heavy, pressing into me and I always sigh and sink into sleep. Tonight is not one of those nights though. Night sits beside me but I don’t notice his presence. I’m sitting up, groggy and foggy eyed. I go to the window and peek out. Tonight I let the light in, gently. Tonight is not the darkest day. Tonight I’m asking the moon to dance.”
