Someone in my life has a misunderstanding and I don’t feel like I can clarify without pushing a boundary. They see an action I did as an intentional rejection, and I am unable to give context that it was so thoroughly not about them, but the reason it wasn’t about them is my … suicide attempt in March. and I don’t know how to explain it without sounding manipulative.

Come off anon and I can give you much more specific advice lmao

I would look into a breeder who produces a dog of a breed or breed mix that is well suited to the tasks you need — usually golden retrievers, labradors, or German shepherds. There are exceptions (I have never worked one of those breeds myself) but there’s TONS of reasons to start there with your first service dog, especially if owner training. I would ask a breeder about their success rate in previous service dog candidates, and if some have failed, ask why. Look for health testing appropriate to the breed, and other green flags you’d look for in a breeder. The rest is pretty much the same as getting a dog for any other purpose.
