Actually I’m going to make my own post about this. I think a lot of people think about OCD as the ‘wants things in a specific way and gets upset if they’re moved’ disease which is just wrong on so many levels. OCD isn’t about neat freaks, it’s about being wholeheartedly convinced that if you don’t lock your door three times in a row someone will break into your house. I’ve been diagnosed with OCD tendencies without even having extreme compulsions (I do have general superstitious tendencies and occasional one time compulsions but nothing that people traditionally think of as being OCD) and my main symptom wasn’t anything relating to compulsions, it was violent, often intrusive thoughts. OCD isn’t “oh I really want it to be in this order and I’ll get really mad at you if you mess with it” it’s more “if it’s not in this order something terrible will happen”, sometimes the “something terrible” will be vague, sometimes it’ll be very specific and graphic and uncomfortable to think about. If I missed something or I messed something up here, please let me know and I’ll fix it, or feel free to add on with your own experiences. I support self dx btw, this isn’t about gatekeeping and when I say “neat freak” if having things be very dirty gives you a panic attack I’m not talking about you.
