Eddie and Steve have the potential to be what harringrove could have never had (because Eddie is essentially what a lot of people wanted/imagined Billy to be)

eddie saw shirtless steve and really said to himself “hmm what would be even better than this?” and immediately decided to put his denim vest on him, so true so true😌

I believe they had the perfect set up to allow Steve to explore his sexuality by giving him a gay best friend in season 3 who could explain to him something he previously didn’t know possible: that some people like boys and girls.

Further, I think they had a good base to start his bicuriousity in season 4 (with mr. Munson) when Robin said “you date a bunch of girls but still have no idea what you’re looking for” and later when Dustin said “maybe if you spent less time looking for a girlfriend and more time looking for Eddie…”. The signs could’ve all been there for Steddie.

He could’ve had google eyes when he saw Eddie’s big hair and soft eyes. Instead they set him up to be with Nancy, which feels cheap to both their characters and frankly makes Steve look like he’s only into Nancy because he’s clearly desperate for a conventionally attractive girl.

I just want to point out that in the podcast they discussed one of the rules in the show bible being that Garnet can’t ask questions. The writers are not allowed to write garnet asking a question ever. The explanation was that they do this in order to keep her sounding decisive, which makes sense in keeping with her future vision and confident attitude. I literally have not thought about this scene since the episode aired and now I’m screaming because listen

Is this a cute nod to their writing strategy? OR is their decision to make this characterization rule alluding to a much much darker thing that they haven’t been telling us?
