and how they then face jiang cheng looking like a disgraced kid and the boyfriend his parents hate. wwx’s expression is so raw, he’s not trying to hide how sad and scared he is to be there, and lwj looks like he’s about five seconds away from either murdering someone or bursting into tears.
the first jc obstacle safely passed, there’s a small diversion in the form of sizhui talking with wen ning, and lwj gets to be a little panicked about that bomb exploding on him at a really bad time.
but luckily wwx is too caught up in his own lotus pier panic to question him.
and then they have to face jc again!
the way wwx slips his foot off the step, the way he looks to the side like a kid caught doing something he shouldn’t, and meanwhile lan zhan has found his courage and is staring jc down like ‘fuck you, too, are you really going to make hanguang-jun and his protege wait outside?’

I mean this very gently, but as much as Wei Wuxian is my little meowmeow who's done nothing wrong (and I mean this in a 'I don't care what he did I still like him' way) , he's also very much an asshole with a barbed tongue almost as sharp as Jiang Cheng's who's defense to how he didn't curse someone is basically 'If i was the one to attack you, you wouldn't be alive'.
He taunts and teases constantly, and while yes that can be endearing, he also does it to intentionally harass and attack people he doesn't like or as a defense mechanism.
Why does Wei Wuxian have to be entirely fucking perfect who has never done anything wrong and makes the perfect moral decisions? Why is that a thing that I'm seeing so much of?
This is a kid who go another guy drunk without their permission and took control over them with a talisman. This is the guy who stole lotus seeds from lotus farmers and then his Uncle had to go pay to cover it up. This is the guy who broke multiple rules in Cloud Recesses and when told that he broke rules, proceeded to continue to break those rules like he wasn't in someone else's home. Not even mentioning the continuing harassment of Lan Wangji (yes we know later Lan Wangji didn't hate it, it doesn't mean that Wei Wuxian wasn't intentionally harassing him). He harasses and angers the son of the one guy in the land who can, and eventually does, destroy him and his home, to be an asshole.
That's even before he's been through Xuanwu cave!
Wei Wuxian is a beloved character who very much does attempt to do what he thinks is best, but also consistently is very much an asshole. Not always in the amusing way either. He is incredibly cocky and thinks that if he decides something should go a certain way then that's how it should go.
He's not always wrong but he also very much crosses so many boundaries of respect that one would think in his position he would be better aware of. There are a lot of times that Wei Wuxian is right! He's brilliant! He's powerful! He's also a cocky asshole who keeps forgetting that just because he personally can fist fight god and win, doesn't mean that he can protect every person in the world.
There is so very much to this character but by the gods he is being mushed down into this almost infantilized state of an 'UwU innocent pure baby'
He committed mass murder guys, he fucks around with zombies and rips spirits out of their sleep, he tortured a dude into cannibalism?? Trauma or not, you can't just torture people and be considered innocent.
