“There is a whole life in an hour of love.”
— Honoré de Balzac
"Well, let it pass; April is over, April is over. There are all kinds of love in the world, but never the same love twice."
– F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Short Stories
- Mr. Knightley in Jane Austen's Emma
“You will be required to do wrong no matter where you go. It is the basic condition of life, to be required to violate your own identity. At some time, every creature which lives must do so. It is the ultimate shadow, the defeat of creation; this is the curse at work, the curse that feeds on all life. Everywhere in the universe.”
– Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick adapted into the 1982 film Blade Runner, dir. Ridley Scott
I said goodbye to my special little guy yesterday. It was too soon and there were a lot of tears. I held him to the very end. But at the same time there was so much love in the room, not only from the friends there, but from so many who had reached out with messages of support. He felt all that love. Not just in those final moments, but from all of you and all the people he encountered over the years.
Nothing gave me more joy than to see the smiles he put on peoples faces as he strutted down the street, sniffing EVERYTHING. Flowers, trees, dogs, humans, fire hydrants you name it. He LOVED to sniff with that little nose and whip that tail. (Almost as much as he loved to eat and sleep, burrowed under his little blankets.) The minute I met him, he changed my life forever. I never really knew true love until he came along. Patrick and that love will be with me as long as I’m here and beyond.
