Need Some Help? — We want to make sure you have everything you need to show off your genius with our fresh designs. Infinite Posts & Lightbox View
One of the challenges of sites with an infinite scroll mode is clicking on a post, going back to the list and realizing you have to scroll back down to where you left off. The Swell premium Tumblr theme gets around this limitation by launching the posts in a ‘lightbox’ style viewer. As you browse post by post your browser will even keep track of the post URL and give you the ability to hit the back and forward buttons as you explore. We even took care of the details so that the Tumblr like & reblog bar updates as you browse the posts.
Once you have a post open you can hit the J / K keys to go to the next and previous posts to go 100% mouse free. Combine that with the infinite scrolling feature an you can explore forever. Want to close the post viewer? Hit the ESC key.
To maintain a clean design a lot of the common theme features are tucked away at the top of the site design. Click on the top left triangle, the first navigation item, or go to /#!/about to expand the site description area. With the Customize > Appearance options you can add your Tumblr icon, links to various social sites, show your latest tweets, likes and posts to Flickr.
Swell has built in support for group blogs, sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google Plus, comments powered by Disqus, Flickr, and posts you like. Also in the appearances options you’ll find nearly 30 social profile icon links.
With options to chance up the theme’s background, accent colors and other elements you will have no problem getting Swell to match your personal or brand’s styling. Check out our introduction post for a full list of features, along with a short description explaining each option. Need some help? email@example.com or @stylehatch
From the largest monitors to tablets to mobile devices, Swell was designed and optimized to look amazing at any size. If you want to use the mobile theme included with Swell, make sure you go to Customize > Advanced and uncheck “Use optimized mobile layout”.
Turn on infinite scrolling to allow your visitors to quickly and easily view hundreds of your posts at once.
Show off your latest shots with Instagram on your sidebar. On our site we have a simple way for you to authorize your Instagram account along with the easy setup steps.
With every premium theme by Style Hatch we have built in Disqus comments. Disqus is by far the easiest to add comments to your Tumblr blog, and your users can use Facebook, Twitter, Google or Disqus to log in and leave comments on your posts.
To setup comments with your blog you'll need to register a Disqus account for your site. After you fill out the information and submit it, grab the site short name you selected and paste it into Customize > Appearance > Disqus ID.
Analytics & User Tracking
All of our themes actually come with two analytics options built in, Google Analytics and realtime tracking with Clicky.
To setup Google Analytics sign up for an account following the simple steps. Once you have your site information added Google will provide you with both a Google Analytics ID and embed code. You only need to grab the ID (UA-000000-1 format) and paste it into Customize > Appearance > Google Analytics ID. Make sure you do not have any spaces before or after the number when adding it.
Alternately (or in addition) you can use Clicky to see in realtime what people are doing on your site. It is a paid service, but you'll get a lot of usable information that Google just does not provide. Sign up for a Clicky account and paste your site ID into Customize > Appearance > Clicky ID.
Show off your latest shots posted to Flickr on your sidebar. To setup your Flickr feed you need to use your Flickr ID rather than username. The easiest way to figure out your ID is to look it up at http://idgettr.com. Paste your Flickr ID in at Customize > Appearance.
Want ultimate control over the typography in our themes? Typekit is fully supported in all of our themes through the appearance options. On the Style Hatch help site we published the basic steps involved in setting up Typekit for your site, or simply watch the video tutorial and follow along.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get my Twitter Feed to show up on my blog?
On March 5, 2013 Twitter made a significant change to the way that sites and blogs can access and display your recent tweets requiring you to use their new Embedded Timeline widget. Once you create your Twitter widget simply copy the embed code they provide and paste it into your Tumblr Customize menu under Appearance > Twitter Widget Embed.
How do I get the theme updates?
Good news! As long as you don’t edit the theme HTML your theme will always be up to date. If you have modified the theme HTML, we would recommend backing everything up first, select a different theme for your blog, and then reselect your premium theme. We’re here to help if you have questions - firstname.lastname@example.org
How can I add titles to my posts?
To add the titles to post you'll need to hit the edit HTML button on the dashboard and manually wrap your titles with <h2></h2> tags. Example screenshot
How can I hide posts I like?
If you want to disable it go to http://tumblr.com/preferences and uncheck "Share posts I like".
Can I setup categories for my blog?
Start giving your similar posts a common tag, for example "design". Then go into the Customize menu and create a new page. From there you can change the page type from a standard layout to a redirect page. Set the "Redirect to:" field to your tag results URL, in the case of "design" it would be "/tagged/design". Help! I accidentally bought the premium theme for the wrong blog. Can you move it over for us?
I wish we could help you out, but as theme designers we simply do not have access to Tumblr's payment, credit and admin systems. If you send an email to email@example.com I'm sure they can help you out.
Does Style Hatch create custom themes?
Unfortunately we do not take on any custom theme projects. Rather we're pouring all our time and energy into providing the best premium themes and over the top support. Since all of our premium themes are highly customizable you could always start with one of our existing themes to customize. If you email us at firstname.lastname@example.org we would be glad to help you out.
