Lovecraft and the Nazi Issue
Hello everyone,
Recent comments made by comic book writer Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) labelling H. P. Lovecraft as a “potential Nazi sympathiser” during the Northants International Comics Expo (N.I.C.E.) in regards to Moore’s forthcoming project, Providence, has reignited an age-old, controversial debate.
Was H. P. Lovecraft a Nazi (sympathiser)?
Because of his influences in horror (and other genres) becoming more recognised to mainstream audiences (especially in contemporary viral pop culture) and in light of this recent controversy, I have decided to write an admittedly rather lengthy essay text post dedicated to the horror author’s alleged relation to Nazism somewhere this month.
It is an extremely delicate and intricate subject that requires research, sourcing, time and planning. Illustrations and art will continue to be posted regularly, so there is no need to fear inactivity on this tumblog.
All the best,
Rowan “Zitterberg”
Sorry if I'm bothering you here, but I was wondering if you could tell me a little more about your experiences with people doubting the existence of ableism. I've had some personal experiences of ableism in the past because of my autism, therefore I cannot grasp the idea that people actually refuse to believe in ableism because it's pretty damn prevalent in society. (not to seek for validation to wallow in my own 'sorrows', just interested in how this is actually possible)
You would be AMAZED how ignorant some people can be. During the whole “Derpy Hooves” fiasco, there were hundreds of comments posted to my page with every excuse imaginable for how ableism wasn’t real and everyone who was talking about it was just “trying to get attention.” And yes, I actually saw several people saying “I never heard of this, therefore it isn’t real.” It was painfully obvious they had no idea what they were talking about.
Most of my friends have disabilities, ranging from physical to mental, and I personally care for a younger sibling on the autistic spectrum. This doesn’t make me an “expert,” but it does make me a lot more aware of how different types of ableism affect the people I care about.
