I have some questions!!

I will soon be moving my darling baby Smaug into a 10-gallon tank, and I don’t want him to get lonely, so I’m thinking of getting him some tankmates! I’ve done a little research, and found that will live with Danios, Mollies, Neon Tetras and Cories. I looked through some pictures, and I’m thinking of getting:

The Story of Howard the Wonder Fish

Petsmart sells these cute little fish called zebra danios (they’re kinda yellow with blue stripes) and someone had put the new golden zebra danios in with the regular ones, so since they cost more and are kept in a separate tank, I had to get them all out and put them in the right tank (which took forever holy crap).

Anyway, while I was catching the little golden ones, I noticed this one fish in the tank that looked pretty different from the rest. After I got the golden danios in the right place, I scooped out the mystery fish and then walked up and down the rows of tanks a few times to see if I could find where it belongs. When I couldn’t find it, I asked one of my coworkers/friends and she was impressed that I noticed that and said that she had never seen that kind of fish before.

In the back room, we have these binders with tags for every type of animal Petsmart sells (so since different stores sometimes carry different animals, there are tags for animals we don’t have). I looked through it and I eventually found out that this guy is a long-finned leopard danio (look up pictures, it’s really cool). I told my friend what kind of fish he is and she typed the UPC for that kind of fish into the register and it came up with an error, which means we don’t sell and never have sold that type of fish.

I went up to one of my bosses and explained everything and he just sat there for a second with an astounded look on his face and then said “Wow. Well done.” Then I said “anyway, what should we do?” and since he was impressed that I had noticed, he said “just take it!”

So that’s how I ended up with Howard the Miracle Fish. He’s named after Dominic Howard (the drummer of Muse) because there’s a sort of inside joke in the Muse fandom that Dom is obsessed with leopard print (and the fish is a leopard danio). I didn’t name him Dom because at some point, I will have a trio of some kind of animal and name them Matt, Dom, and Chris haha.

So I was just doing some reading up on Zebra Danio’s, out of interest. I have one, his name is Slash.

Slash can regenerate his fins, skin, and HEART.

MY FISH IS A MOTHERFUCKING TIMELORD

Fry Update: 1 Week

The fry are about 3/4ths of an inch long right now. Most of their bodies are still completely see-through. You can see into their stomachs and how much they ate, and they only eat about 4-5 pellets of food before they’re full. Their tails are starting to form into the fan shape (they were previously like that of a tadpole).

They’re basically eyes and a stomach right now xD You can see them opening their mouths now, chewing, and swallowing. There are still 8 or 9 from what I can tell, but it’s just about the original number. I don’t have my glasses on so I can’t tell, lol.

Change of Plans

Okay, so forget all that. I’ve made up my mind to Tallahassee with me. He’s come with me on trips before, but never ones as big as this.

I really think I’m the one who can provide the best care for him, because I know what he likes and I’m willing to put in the work to get him better. I can’t ask my neighbor who would care for him to change his water every single day and monitor him constantly (if I’m going to be honest, she’s very laid back and probably would forget to do it anyway). She’ll be taking care of Little Rock and the danio/frog tank, but I’m not nearly as worried about them.

I go to Maine every year, and the drive is about 10 hours long. I’ve never had fish during the trip before, seeing as I just got my first one less than a year ago. It’s just a tiny little cabin on a lake, but the air is warmer than it is here and he usually actually enjoys trips since it shakes up his surroundings.

My mother will think I’m crazy and try to talk me out of it, but he’s just one tiny little fish. Even if it doesn’t go well and he dies while we’re there, at least I’ll have had a little more time with him.

And who knows? Maybe it’ll be good for him. Either way, he’s coming with me.

Hello

Does anybody want some fish? I have 4 healthy, full grown zebra danios (two male and two female) that I can no longer care for. Rather than give them to the suspicious Local Fish Store or flush them down the toilet, I’d like to see them go to a good home. So, if anyone in the Houston area would like them, please let me know. I’d rather not ship them across the country/world, since I have no idea how to keep them alive for that long.

Thanks!
