Untouchable (2009)

I was actually watching this to take a break between episodes of the kdrama “Ghost”. I ended up finishing this first - obviously because there are fewer episodes of “Untouchable” (9) than “Ghost” (20).

I came across this Japanese drama by chance. I didn’t hear or read any recommendations from anyone. It’s just something that I came across whilst looking at the filmography of one of the actors. 

It was surprisingly enjoyable to watch. At first it seemed a little silly, but as each episode progressed I found myself drawn deeper into the story. Who was this ‘Anonymous’ anyway? And what would be the outcome!? By episode 6 I had guessed who the person was, but you know that’s because I always enjoy a good plot twist so I try to guess the twistiest of twists and I usually end up right. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing though. It’s good because I get a sense of self-satisfaction that I could read the writers’ minds, but bad because maybe I won’t feel a sense of surprise. I’m leaning toward “good”.

Anyway, back to the show.

Once again Nakama Yukie gets to be a super adorable character - Narumi Ryoko. Even though Narumi is almost 30 she has a sweet, and almost naive view of the world around her. She wants to get to the truth and she is aware that bad things happen, but at the same time she is a very trusting person and believes in the people around her. She is a truly adorable character and Nakama Yukie was definitely the right choice for the part.

While there was no obvious romance in the story I still found myself shipping Narumi and Takafuji. They work well together and have similar backgrounds. I was almost disappointed that there wasn’t a small kiss in the end. 

The ending was left open. Perhaps the writers wanted to continue with a Special. I would watch it if there was a special. 

Kudos to the drama for giving me some unexpected pleasure. Light-hearted yet serious at the same time. It was actually a nice break from the intensity of “Ghost” (am almost done - I swear!).

My final rating: 9/10 (I’m not sure why I gave it a high rating… I just really enjoyed it. It left me feeling happy in the end.)
