my mother was telling me about her friend who works at Google
to start off, her friend is lesbian and she came out to her mother when she was 10 or 11 and her mother flipped a shit and wouldn’t let her near any girls, her family resented her so much they excluded her from family pictures and verbally abused her. So when she was in 10th grade she talked to her school counselor and begged to be taken out, she became an emancipated youth and stayed at an LGBTQ teen shelter, and then worked her way through college. At college, Google’s LGBTQ outreach program discovered her and hired her as soon as she graduated and now she has an amazing job and a girlfriend who works as a school counselor at a neighboring college.
And you know I hear so many stories about parents being unaccepting of their queer* kids, but you don’t get to hear how it works out later as much? and I thought it was a great story so i’m sharing it!
