Sachin+Babi S/S'12 Favorites | New York Fashion Week

image

Needless to say, I’m pretty backlogged.  I don’t like pictures and opinions going to waste though.  This one is for the womenswear kids.  I had a chance to peek my head into the Sachin + Babi Spring 2012 presentation and here are my favorite looks.  It’s regrettably my first time seeing the line in person, so I have no context for the collection, but that shouldn’t detract.  The highlight for this season’s design and my favorite thing was the soft structure.

I’ll make some comments below.  Enjoy the photos.

I like the cut and length of the skirt above.  The perforated stripe detail is a nice touch.

Interesting to see a pencil skirt in leather; simple and chic.

I can’t define this piece, but I think from the collar to the should I’m in love.  You may or may not be surprised, but this is my favorite look in the collection.

The flaps on the jacket are a detail I haven’t seen yet, and I’m always appreciative when designers give a somewhat classic style their own spin.

Steven Alan S/S 2012 Collection | New York Fashion Week

image

I’ve always been quite fond of Steven Alan for creative and quality focused wovens, but now I’m appreciative of him for much more.  Steven Alan put together a cohesive presentation that told a great story for both womenswear and menswear.  But there was much more he left unsaid…

If you are a conservative guy, you’ll probably fall in love with the easily accessible, but still unique theme of the line.  Steven Alan adopts some great spring colors including mango, coral, and orange.  By far, I think he’s created some of the best shorts for men I’ve seen this season.  Although outerwear is a small focus for spring, I think he managed to work in some really cool, hip pieces - especially the toggle coat.  The suiting contains certain level of aspiration-driven sartorial hipster-cool.  All-in-all, the presentation is strong, although he chose to showcase a bit more conservatively than what he has to offer.  I’ve seen the line in the showroom, and I promise you, it is phenomenal

For women, there is the ease of the all-around girl incorporated in the styling.  From chambray and printed dresses, to color-blocked ensembles, and checkered double-breasted suits…Steven Alan didn’t take anything off the table.  And rightly so, as the collection for women really promotes what the lifestyle of women should be - casually hip.  I saw a lot of women’s collections this season, and I would argue that Steven Alan knows how to let a girl have some fun.  Whether you mismatch your designer wardrobe or like to put on the full look, versatility was not spared in the lineup.

I hope next season Steven Alan let’s it rip in a no holds barred colorful expression.  But I’m not mad at him either.  The pieces are wonderful, the shape and color speak to a lifestyle I admire.  The shorts for men are incredible.  The casual DB suit for women is incredible.  There are tons of fun things to look forward to come next spring.

Hyden Yoo, The Movie | New York Fashion Week

image

Everyone knows I post pictures long after the fact, but I do it for a reason.  Every concept, every idea…they all need to marinate.  I can’t believe I’m using the word marinate.  Fashion Week for the most part is a blur.  People collect as much content as they can, and then they blast the Internet with little regard for the product.  I have incredible qualms about doing that kind of justice to my reads and my photos.  And that’s why you’re getting some Hyden Yoo some 3 months after New York Fashion Week.

Hyden Yoo has been a guy I’ve followed for a couple seasons now.  I enjoyed his Spring/Summer 2012 collection, not just because he transported me into a movie to receive it, but also because the clothes have a manageable point of view.   There’s a modified classy nature to the design for men.  For women, there’s a refined-drama, non-fussy feel to the silhouettes and cuts.  The color palette isn’t crazy, so you have to really love the designs or get out of dodge.  Watching Hyden Yoo grow is a pleasure.

This crewneck sweater is smart and classic

Love this 3/4-length trench on her

Yes, that’s a vest with tuxedo lapels…and the dress, loving the length

The hobo chic crewneck sweater is amazing; the model in the middle is rocking the coolest and slimmest pleated pants I’ve seen in a while - the olive color is dope
