When I really think about it I’m actually terrified by the Republic Party. Should Romney be elected there is a real chance that my body will legally cease to belong to me. It’ll be in the hands of middle-aged men who know nothing about me; who are not doctors or physicians, but politicians with backwards views and patriarchal biases against women’s rights. I’ll no longer have the right to say “no;” I’ll no longer have any options to fall back on should I not be able to pay for normal healthcare. Let’s not even get started on what the future could hold for me in the job market, where I wouldn’t receive equal pay or health coverage from an employer just because he or she doesn’t feel like giving it to me.
Republicans like to believe that out of the sheer goodness of their hearts they are doing what’s best for women. Since, you know, our migrating uteri and hysteria make it hard for us to think for ourselves.
Not like I ever for a second considered voting for Romney, but his campaign against women—over half of the nation’s population—has only made my conviction that Obama is the best choice for our country that much stronger.
