Rhino: “I am not medicine.”
Elephant: “I am not a trinket.”
Tiger: “I am not a rug.”
“As skyrocketing demand for illegal ivory, rhino horn and tiger parts escalates, ruthless criminal networks plunder the wild. Wildlife crime is estimated to be worth $10 billion annually to criminals and it costs the planet some of the world’s best-loved species.
Criminal kingpins involved in illegal wildlife trade distribute guns, intimidate communities, exploit the poor and bribe officials to get what they want. Our failure to act allows crime to flourish and fuel regional conflicts—and even fund terrorist groups in some countries.
WWF works to turn this high-profit, low-risk crime into a low-profit, high-risk liability. We’re dead serious about stopping wildlife crime. Stand with WWF. Together, we will make a difference.”

RSPB wildlife crime newsletter now available

Bit of a good news / bad news type thing, this newsletter.
On the one hand it’s great to read about the prosecutions that have successfully gone through the courts, but on the other it’s depressing to see what some folk get up to. Kicking herring gulls in Liverpool, for example……where you’ll be delighted to read that the guy in question was jailed for 20 weeks.
There’s also some news about new wildlife legislation in Scotland to ensure that those who direct or turn a blind eye to bird persecution can be held to account.
