I have heard white feminists
say that my “oppression” ends with the wearing of the hijab, as if the fact of my brownness could be stripped away along with a headscarf. As if I would be as free as those white feminists, and their equals.
This is a lie. On the days I don’t wear my hijab, I am still brown and treated like a brown person in America. And if a day ever came where no Muslimah wore a hijab, many of us would still be PoC in a world that reviles us. How is that a victory?
