How to Add a Watermark to Tens or Hundreds of Images All at Once
If you’re a photographer and have hundreds or thousands of photos that you’re trying to sell and/or you need to watermark them all, but don’t have the time to do them one by one, luckily there’s an easy way to do it!
Requirements: Basic knowledge of the Photoshop interface (but most tools/features in this tutorial I will show you how to use).

Note: I am not going to show you how to CREATE a watermark, there are tons of options online for that. I am going to show you where to place your watermark, why placement makes a difference and how to best watermark your photos.
Watermarks are ugly, there’s no getting around that, they are annoying to look at, they can become troublesome to continuously apply and they don’t prevent theft altogether, but they can deter someone from WANTING to steal your photos.

Aritist start watermarking your art!
Due to an upsetting issue to a friend of mine here on tumblr, I just wanted to put this out there. Artist please start watermarking your art. Not only does it protect your work and good name, but also makes people less likely to steal or repost your work. In all honesty it does not matter how good or bad your personally think your art is, there is always someone out there who will think your work is a masterpiece. Now granted, art thieves are still going to go out of their way to steal your work if they think they can get away with it. However by watermarking your art; it is easier for others to obviously identify and report it. My friend who this happened to also had her work posted on all places “Zerochan.” As I went through zerochan, I noticed a lot of the stolen work that is posted there do not have watermarks. A lot of artist sign their works in small signatures in the corners or their piece or whatnot; for the idea of not wanting to ruin the composition of their pieces, however signing your work is not enough anymore.
Artist please, and especially some of my followers who read this, start watermarking your shit!
Day 58 - Image Scaling and Watermarking and Security
For the first time since I started, I’ve released 3 tutorials in one day. I generally do not combine two completely unrelated tutorials in the same day, but since time is short, I don’t have much of a choice. The first tutorial was on image scaling and watermarking, the second on hashing a user’s password information, and the third on using PVSecurity::checkAuth method.
The most interesting/useful tutorial was the second one. It wasn’t related to ProdigyView but was about securely storing a user’s sensitive information. I’ve had numerous occasions where I came across a project and the user’s sensitive information(password) was in the database in plain text. Yes, a recipe for a disaster later. It also goes into how to break an MD5 hash. Using Google, it is very easy to decrypt a password that has been MD5 hashed. And the last part of the tutorial goes into making a salt with MD5 or PHP’s crypt function. It is a very useful read for PHP programmers in general.
The watermarking tutorials explains how to create watermark on image with both an another image or just text. It’s very easy for a site to create their own custom watermarks. It also shows how to scale an image to effectively make useful smaller versions such as thumbnails.
The third tutorial takes the concepts from the tutorial on hashing and implements it in ProdigyView with an option to decrypt certain information. It hooks up to table or if you are using Mongo, to a collection in the database and makes authenticating a user’s credentials seamless. Tomorrow is Day 59, and I will be getting into applications and plug-ins.

I’ve started to put a discreet watermark on original photos I post here because I’ve noticed some users delete the original source link and then post it on their own Tumblr. I don’t mind people reblogging my posts but please leave the source link!

Watermarking your images.
I’ve heard a few things about people having their images stolen and re-appropriated to thinspo blogs lately. That sucks. You work so hard on your health and fitness, and then the visual proof of your victories go to supporting that kind of unhealthy lifestyle? Not okay.
Anyway, Pat suggested that I do a quick write up about how you can easily watermark your images. I found a really awesome site, called PicMarkr, that’s a simple, fast, and hassle free way to set a watermark on your pictures.
This is a solution for people that don’t have Photoshop. If you have Photoshop, I’m gonna go ahead and assume you know how to put text on an image where you want it (though, if not, I’d be glad to write up another tutorial).
- Navigate to http://picmarkr.com/index.php
- Click on the Browse buttons and upload the images you want to watermark. Click “Ok! Go to Step2”
- Type in your text, choose the way you want it displayed, and where on the image. I’d suggest maybe in the middle of the picture, since it’s much more difficult to crop out when it’s not on the top or bottom! There’s also an option for a tiled watermark, if you want to go crazy… Click Continue.
- Click the big green button to download the new, watermarked images to your computer.
- Profit!

Excuse me Tumblr but I think you all really should stop complaining about who owns whose photos and who it belongs to. Newsflash, watermarking a photo or posting it first does not make it belong to you. If you didnt take it with your camera then it is not your photo. If you’re really obsessed with watermarking and making everyone know that its your photo which I guess is understandable you should put it on Flickr or something if you must share it with the internet (because on the internet you always run the risk of people posting your photo other places) where they watermark your photo and automatically copyright it. If you put it on Tumblr people will always post it themselves without credit so if its a big concern dont post it on the internet at all. This is a photo blogging website where you share photos with other people so either dont post it at all or deal with it.
