A great interview from a while back at DCist with the founder of PPU Records here in DC, Andrew Morgan. Morgan started out selling old records on eBay back in the 90s (when eBay was like the YouTube of now). Morgan continued his business, setting up PPU records to rerelease early 80s synthy dance records. The company sells old records to pay for rereleases and has dug up some amazing stuff. I found out about PPU from a mixtape I downloaded, and was so excited to find that the company that had released some of the tracks was based here in DC. Cool fact - he also has DJed at Fatback events before. Figure that.
