Anyone involved in customer service, those of us who are baristas, cashiers, waitresses, help hotline representatives, geek squad, sales associates, the elderly people who handed out stickers at wal-mart, cart attendants. Basically, this goes out to anyone who can't have a single day at work where they don't run into a disgruntled customer. To all of you, I just wanted to say that I respect the fucking fuck out of you. That is all.

“When I think about the fact that our CEO Mike Duke made over $20 million last year, more than 1,000 times the average Walmart associate, with all due respect, I have to say I don’t think that’s right.”

Wal-Mart hit with multi-million dollar fine for Clean Water Act violations

  • $82Mfine to be paid by Wal-Mart for six counts of violating the Clean Water Act, to which the company has pleaded guilty. Prosecutors said workers in California, as a primary example, were until January 2006 not trained in disposing of hazardous waste, instead dumping it in municipal trash cans or down sink drains into the sewer system. That case was settled at the state level in 2010, but a subsequent federal case has cost the retail giant the above chunk of change. source

“I have no fear of being retaliated against, because the whole reason that I’m speaking out is bigger than me… I’m more scared about my son one day having to work for Walmart.”

Walmart Workers Launch First-Ever 'Prolonged Strikes' Today | The Nation

Walmart workers are on strike in Massachusetts, the Bay Area and Miami, and plan to strike at least until June 7.

This is a brave move by these low-wage workers. Walmart is ruthless and is one of the most aggressive union-busting companies out there.

So why should you care?

A simple answer is that sadly, more and more Americans are employed in the low-waged service industry. And given that paucity of jobs for college graduates, many Tumblr bloggers may end up having to try to make ends meet with abysmal, working poverty wages. HALF of all Americans now are officially classified as poor or low income. Not surprising given that so many work in non-union, low wage jobs for companies such as Walmart.
