Sign upI'm just as upset as anyone else about Andrea dying...
but to those making Glen Mazzara memes and harassing him on twitter, please read what Robert Kirkman had to say:
Moving on to the fatalities. In the comic book, Andrea survives this part of the saga and, in fact, is still alive now. How much discussion did you have about whether or not to kill her on the show?
That was huge. We spent many months of figuring that out and coming to that decision. It’s never an easy thing to kill a character and that one was definitely tough, because Laurie Holden is such a huge part of the show and it is quite a departure from the comic books. I can imagine there are a good number of fans that are frustrated by it and heartbroken over it and that’s what we’re going for.Your aim is to break fans’ hearts?
Well, we want people to be invested in these characters. We want every death to be as emotional as possible. When you see season 4 and you see how that death has affected Rick and how it’s changed all these characters and what’s come from that death, I think it will all make sense. But no deaths are decided upon flippantly.
Like I said, I’m upset too, i wanted her to live and I really liked her. But stop the insults and ridiculous tantrums and realize that it’s not Mazzara’s fault, Kirkman was obviously for it too, not everything has to be like the comics and also one writer doesn’t make the final decision on these things.
I was wondering if you'd suggest watching the Walking Dead TV show, since I have been reading the comics (my dad buys them) and right now I'm just reading it for Michonne, because I would seriously pay for an entire series based on Michonne. But is the TV show any good? Would you rate it higher that the comics or are they roughly equal?
I honestly feel like Michonne is handled a lot better in the TV show than she was in the books. I was super disappointed that she makes this grand entrance, then her second line of dialogue is setting up a shitty forced love triangle and she’s giving blowjobs by her third. Then as soon as she does something not ROMANTIC TENSION related, she gets brutally assaulted (and raped?!) like Ha Ha take that Strong Female Character teach you to be a tough girl. And then as soon as they add a new guy to the group she’s all I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER LOVE AGAIN and all her panel time is devoted to what she’s doing with him. They keep trying to pass her off as the lone wolf ice queen who’s forgotten how to love, but almost everything they use her for in the comics is “which of these dudes is she hooking up with?”.
The TV series so far has no romantic subplots with her as of writing this, she’s just a survivalist zombie hunter supreme who saved Andrea and then left her for greener pastures when her traveling companion started getting exceptionally insufferable.
I mean, I’m not trying to say “No, tough girls can’t have love lives!” but I felt like that was like 90% of what they did with her in the comics, if she wasn’t sleeping with somebody she was just kind of shuffled to the background. And it feels like a super red herring to be like HEY WE GOT A BADASS OVER HERE then immediately just invent a soap opera for her.
No I don’t think you understand how much that scene with Daryl and Merle got to me. I just, when Daryl saw him just eating Ben like that he just broke down. And when Merle came at him he shrunk back….he shrunk back at first. He was a little boy again afraid that he’d upset his family again—even though Merle said he’d always be there for his ‘baby brother’ because someone has to be there to make sure Daryl doesn’t get his ‘ass handed to him on a damn silver platter at every turn’ and he just cried, he pushed him away. Once. Twice. A third time. But it hurt too much to look at him like this it hurt too much to see Merle, his brother like this and seeing Merle with blood on his hands isn’t uncommon because Daryl’s been there during the bar fights and backstreet brawls.because they’re brothers and they’re always gonna be together.
But this thing is not his brother, it’s wearing his face how dare it wear his face. It hurts so much to see this creature with his brother’s face that he just attacks and attacks and attacks until he can’t see it anymore. It’s not Merle, not anymore without that face it’s just a body. Another body in the world of the dead and he moves away as fast as he can AND HE JUST LOOKS SO YOUNG AND LOST IN THIS SCENE. The last time he let Merle go off on his own he didn’t see him for almost a year and when he got him back all his pieces—not just physically—weren’t there, he wasn’t quite right, he wasn’t quite the same but he was still his Merle and this time when Merle left on his own again all the rest of the pieces were gone too and Daryl just hates knowing that maybe had he been there, this monster wouldn’t be wearing his face.
If he’d been there, Merle wouldn’t be dead. Not on his watch. Never on his watch.
I’m done.
