studentsforliberty.orgThe Hackley Endowment for the Study of Capitalism and Free Enterprise at Fayetteville State University is hosting a supply and demand music video contest open to all students across the nation due December 15th, 2011, one month from today.
Topic: A Music Video that explains supply & demand in a creative and entertaining fashion.
“You can focus on whatever aspect of supply and demand that you wish, but things to consider are what would happen if prices were too high or too low, and how the free market price system helps coordinate buyers and sellers. Many good videos have story lines behind them, so you might think about giving it that extra personal dimension.
Don’t be overly technical and just put the main lessons of supply and demand to any kind of music. The most important requirement is to have fun!”
The grand prize winner receives a plaque and $2,500! Second and third prize entries receive $300 and $200 respectively. Professors of the students receive a plaque, along with a check for $500 if the student wins. Honorable mentions receive free copies of Atlas Shrugged.
The judges of the video contest are Edward Stringham of Fayetteville State University, Mike Munger of Duke University, and the famous “Fear the Boom and Bust” producer John Papola.
Deadline: December 15, 2011

From Chibi:
Hi everyone. So I guess we’ll be announcing the finalists for our video contest tomorrow, but I just wanted to write something on here about this whole contest and how it’s been sort of a double-edged sword for me.
We got a ton of submissions. It’s been a lot of fun going through them all. I personally waited until the very end to look at any of them, so the last week for me has been a total deluge of stuff that you guys created. And I have to say that I am absolutely blown away by the amount of creativity and insanity and awesomeness in these videos. There are so many great ideas, so many interesting interpretations, so much heart and love and hard work that have been put in. And that’s incredible to see and totally evokes these feelings in me of gratitude and amazement. I got really emotional watching these - even the silly and cute ones. Because it takes a lot of heart to put a lot of work into something, and then to share it with people. I get that. And that’s where the other side of the aforementioned double-edged sword comes in.
I don’t want to have to choose “winners”. I hate the whole concept. So part of me is wishing we hadn’t done this whole contest thing. Every video has merit, and we enjoyed watching all of them. Ultimately I am glad we got to see you guys’ work, but I hate having to choose ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL, so to speak. It’s hard.
So let me just say - we watched all the videos and found things we liked about absolutely all of them. We want to thank everyone for entering. I’m sure all you guys have your favourites from the entries and you might disagree with our finalists. Let’s see how it goes…

Announcing the #TBMVideoContest WINNERS!
It’s been an emotional experience for all of us. We watched them all, and you blew us away over and over again. We feel like we know you better and perhaps even gained insight into how our music makes you feel.
You’re probably tired of hearing us say this BUT: it was not easy to select the winners. Each band member had different videos they were moved by, subject matter that really spoke to them, and favorite videos they were rooting for. Our list is essentially what we all agreed on. We picked some for quality and technical skill, and some purely on subject matter or overall feel, even if the video wasn’t perfect. We also took into account who we (think we) are and how the video would fit with our style… or perhaps how it might even fit with our future directions… all the while trying to expand our ideas of what a music video -could- be. The contest was so interesting, but we forgot we’d have to choose…and that makes us a bit uncomfortable.
More on the process from Chibi here: http://www.facebook.com/birthdaymassacrechibi/posts/559698700727938
We could go through one by one and pick out the things we liked in each… but it’s a 9 hour viewing session! So many of these were clearly worked on with so much dedication. We can’t thank you enough.
NOTE: TOP 13 (prize winners) We will contact you at the email address you sent your entry to us from. If you do not hear from us by April 15, please write us again!
