Live: SESAC Tin Pan South Writer Round at The Listening Room
March 28, 2012 (Wednesday)
I went to the Listening Room for SESAC’s Tin Pan South Writer Round featuring Victoria Shaw, Mark Hudson, Gary Burr and Billy Mann.

They’re all incredible songwriters with lots of hits to their names. It was a very cool round. Victoria played her hits with Garth Brooks, Billy played his hits with Kelly Rowland, Jessica Simpson, and closed with his song with Pink, “Glitter in the Air”. Great song. Gary didn’t play his massive hits, but he’s got such a dense and solid catalog that anything he chooses to play will be good. Mark Hudson was the standout though, with his rainbow beard and crazy stories. He played “Where’s The Love” from the first Hanson album, which he wrote and produced. And he closed with “Livin’ on the Edge” and it sounded better than Aerosmith! Really cool show.

I'll never reach my destination if I never try
Maybe my favourite lyric from the most inspirational song, The River, by Garth Brooks and Victoria Shaw. It’s pretty true of life, and of me.
Well I’m in my late thirties and still vowing to succeed with these songs of mine. From Theatre to Country, Pop to Classical, I’ve written so many songs I’ve lost count.
2012 is the year in which I’m going to document them all, starting with a 16 song Anthology album of the songs I feel have most chance to get somewhere. Bear in mind that at 39, with no cuts in the bank, I’m still pretty convinced there’s something in these songs.
2012 also heralds the recording of my new musical “The Tombstones” which was so brilliantly performed in Coventry in October of 2011. It’s a movie waiting to happen, at least that’s what I believe. Maybe the successor to Grease and High School Musical it’s a college/zombie musical which I’m determined to get to Hollywood :)
Whether it works or not, who knows, but as the title says very wisely before saying “So I will sail my vessel til the river runs dry”, well that’s the plan. Now just gotta make it happen.
