“Humans — who enslave, castrate, experiment on, and fillet other animals — have had an understandable penchant for pretending animals do not feel pain. A sharp distinction between humans and 'animals' is essential if we are to bend them to our will, make them work for us, wear them, eat them — without any disquieting tinges of guilt or regret. It is unseemly of us, who often behave so unfeelingly toward other animals, to contend that only humans can suffer. The behavior of other animals renders such pretensions specious. They are just too much like us.”—Carl Sagan in Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors
Eating meat is misogynistic ???
My vegan boss was telling me today about this feminist theory: eating meat is misogynistic because we only eat the female’s of the breed and we mainly eat the parts most associated with womanhood (chicken breast, cows milk, chicken eggs etc….)
I can’t tell if this is legitimate and insightful, or over-thought and reading into things too much…
Also…he was explaining this to me while I was eating my chicken and rice lunch I made for myself. I went from being very proud that I cooked my own lunch (in the dorm no less) to be disgusted with myself for being a misogynist.
