US 41
US 41 is a treasure that I’ve recently discovered, though I’ve known about it probably all my life and have used it many many times. But because I usually like to take the fast route, aka I-75, I don’t often take it unless I’m literally just going up or down the road.
The other day I drove north on US 41 to go to one of my homegirl’s house. Oh the things that I found! This country road carried many hidden treasures: different hole-in-the-wall restaurants that probably serves delicious food, flea markets and thrift shops, a drive-in theater! And all of that was no more than half an hour away from where I stay (I lives out in the country).
Going south on 41 has some treasures too, but I drive through there almost everyday. Ruskin and Apollo Beach… those are unfamiliar places to me.
The thing I think I like the most US 41 though is the sereneness of it all… sometimes I’d be the only one driving on it either way. And though that may seem very scary - especially since 41 doesn’t really have light poles north of Palmetto - it was a calming experience. A perfect time to just be yourself, by yourself, in your thoughts and feelings and whatever else you be in.
If gas wasn’t so high, I’d go down 41 more often.
