One reason why I'm not religious:
The metal Jesus in my business ethics class freaks me out.
I go to a Catholic university. Whether or not I am Catholic (which I am not), I have accepted this.
I am used to the wooden crosses above the doors in every dorm room, every classroom. The numerous statues of Mary across campus don’t faze me any more. I use the illuminated dome of the chapel to orient my position on campus at night.
But this cross, in this room - it’s too much.
Maybe because it’s made of bi-metal and supposed to look “modern.” Jesus isn’t modern.
Maybe because his curly metal wreath on his cylindrical head makes him look like a sheep.
Maybe because the bright copper encircling his hips in contrast to the dull pewter of his body draws all too much attention to his groin.
Maybe because he’s in the classroom in which I have my first class of the day and he looks too much like the hazy figures that occasionally haunt my morning dreams.
Maybe, I should stop obsessing about him and pay attention in this class.
Can We Just Talk About How Amazing My School Is?
Ok so I know that I never shut up about the opportunities that I’ve come across during the past nine months at my school, but I feel like I need to announce this one…
I was asked to attend an international conference about student leadership and student engagement. Since the school judged me to be one of four of the best representatives out of the entire student body, they will be sending me to New Orleans this August for three days to attend workshops and lectures that are about getting the student body involved in the amazing programs that our school has to offer.
Oh, and they’re paying for all of it.
And I’m only a freshman, guys! Can you imagine how amazing the next three years are going to be? I’m absolutely speechless. I feel like I’m walking on air right now.
