television recommendations and such
Okay, so, I’m always looking for new things to watch, even though I watch way too much television to begin with. Below is a screencap of all the television shows I have on my HD.

So, tell me what shows you like? What recommendations to you give whenever anyone asks what they should watch next? I’d really love to know!
ETA: Looking at this, I realize it’s not complete, because I have Strike Back on my main computer.
as a person who previously claimed that she would never under any circumstances watch doctor who, would you recommend the show to someone who feels the same as you used to? I've watched part of the first season and didn't see the appeal of it. idk. is it worth the time? and just curious, what made you start watching? you used to be really determined to keep it out of your life lol.
lol I knew this was coming I used to make it a weekly ritual to complain about doctor who and insist that I would never watch it.
but yes. I recommend this show to everyone.
for me it was really tough to get into it because I’m not used to shows that are so ridiculous (and by ridiculous I mean farting aliens, bees that are six feet tall, etc etc). it took me forever to get used to all the weird special effects and storylines. but I got used to it eventually. it’s a show of its own. there’s none other like it and the questionable material is what makes it so special and quirky. in my opinion, anyway.
and as for what finally convinced me to watch it, I’m holding this bitch completely responsible. she hounded me for like over a year about this show and she’s very passionate about it.
also I’d like to hold this other bitch responsible as well because she told me doctor who was a happy adventurous show that was full of giggles and rainbows and she told me that it would help ease the pain all my other shows were causing me.
SPOILER ALERT, SHE FUCKING LIED.
idk man somewhere along the line (probably around doomsday I swear to fucking god that episode was depressing as fuck TAKE ME BACK) I developed such intense feels for the show that I couldn’t even function when I was thinking about it. like literally every time I think about the doctor I have to stop what I’m doing and just wallow in my river of tears.
lol okay bottom line, you should definitely watch it. or at least try. it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it certainly wasn’t mine when I first tried to watch it. but if you stick with it, it gets progressively better and there are some fucking fabulous episodes let me tell you.
the show is campy as hell but it’s really worth it. it will make you giggle and giggle some more.
at the end of it all, you’ll laugh and have fun and cry and develop some new otps along the way I’m sure. and all incarnations of the doctor are completely adorable so you should just watch it for adorable men being silly and badass and cute.
I don’t even know what I just typed I hope this makes sense sorry sorry MY POINT IS THAT IT’S A GREAT SHOW AND I WAS WRONG NOT TO HAVE WATCHED IT EARLIER AND YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A FAIR CHANCE BEFORE JUDGING THE SHIT OUT OF IT LIKE I USED TO DO ALL RIGHT.
emily's tv recommendations:
- The West Wing (which is how I learned to be snarky and intelligent at the same time, see stockardchanning’s answer to the meme)
- Battlestar Galactica (which I affectionately call TWW in space)
- Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra (like Harry Potter, they are definitely not just for children)
- Firefly (you’re not a human being until you’ve watched it and it’s movie sequel, Serenity)
- Boardwalk Empire (because jfc how can you not actual commentary on race and gender relations and the intersection thereof)
aimmyarrowshigh replied to your post: You don’t watch Parks and Rec? It’s on your blog quite a bit I just assumed you watched it! It’s really great, if you’re not too sure at first it improves a lot second season (the first season is only 6 eps anyway).
I’d start with s02e06, actually, personally. That’s when they seemed to really hit their stride. s01 in particular is terrible, much like s01 of The Office.
Thanks! Do I need to know anything before starting at that episode?

Is there any I should put at the front of the list? Or any that aren’t worth checking out? Also feel free to rec others. So?
Okay, I was wondering if I should try to give Elementary another go, because nothing that I like is currently “in season.” My main problem the first time I tried to watch it was that I found that it was set up like a cop drama, and I couldn’t deal with the format. I got up to episode two and wasn’t really into it. However, from my dash it seems like it’s gotten a lot better since then?
I wanted to ask if anybody who doesn’t normally like CSI/cop drama type-things watches Elementary and would reccommend it to me?
What I mean is that I was wondering if the character relationships and the acting might be enough for me to put aside my dislike of the format, and wanted to ask opinions from people who watch the show. I like JLM and Lucy Liu as actors, and I don’t want to feel like I didn’t give it enough of a chance.
Any opinions?
