Istanbul Grill & Deli

That picture looks pretty appetizing, doesn’t it.

I was taken to this deli with my coworkers for lunch one day, and luckily, my boss is very familiar with Turkish food. Big plus. Exploring new restaurants is always exciting, but trying a new KIND of food is even more appealing to me. Step outside the box, you might find something you love!

We ate on the patio, but I had to peak inside at the dessert counter and kitchen. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s that traditional element that makes it so special.

We ordered the Mixed Meze platter which is a sampler of several types of their appetizers that they offer. As a newbie to Turkish food, I’ll let anyone know that hasn’t been before that it is similar to Greek food. That’s what struck me immediately. Oh, and the tea? Besides the adorable miniature spoon it was accompanied with, I loved that the tea itself was piping hot and bold. I ordered two, of course.

As for the picture above, that was my main course, the Tavuk Sis Kebab. (marinated chicken) along with rice and a side salad. It was AMAZING. Fresh, quality food. I couldn’t finish it all, but took the leftovers with me.

My suggestion? Get there as fast as you can. It’s a hidden gem in Rice Village, but after posting my picture of this on Instagram, I had several comments from people raving about it, so it must be more popular than I realized. Only downfall? Parking. But who cares, enjoy the walk on the way.

Toodles,

J
