Tumblr Unfamous, and proud.
Firstly, let me start by saying this is not a jab at anybody of the Tumblr Famous society.
A blog is meant to express yourself, your opinions, your life. It seems people have lost the need to express, but are now trying to impress and it’s sad. I see people trying so hard to get a couple of reblogs and more followers, but why? In becoming “Tumblr famous”, lets review the rewards. Your picture gets more reblogs than the norm, your ask box is never empty, your followers are increased. But also, you start getting all sorts of hate mail and stupidity from Anons. Being “Tumblr famous” shouldn’t be a goal to reach. Would I put that on a resume for a job application? It’s stupid to even think that this is what Tumblr is becoming. Getting on follower trains to gain more followers? If you follow my blog, I want you to follow because you find interest in things that interest me as well. When you become Tumblr famous, your blog isn’t about YOU anymore, it’s about your followers. The little girls commenting on how perfect they think you are, how they want to be just like you, how they’d kill to spend time with you or just take a simple picture with you. These followers are fans. Fans that you begin to treat like groupies. I see people write the nicest things in an ask box, then get replied with a dry ass comment. It’s rude and inconsiderate. But I don’t blame them, because these people that you guys are praising, are just regular kids just like you. They are not celebrities. They wont be bombarded with real paparazzi in public. Tumblr is getting ruined by the need to be popular and it’s sickening. If your blog is really about YOU, and not about how many people are following you, you would really enjoy it.
My blog is me. It’s my journey growing up. My online dairy. What I love, what I hate. I want to be able to pull up my blog 10 years from now and scroll down, knowing these were things I was once interested in, and not what once made me look cool. I’m the biggest fan of my blog, and that’s fine with me. I appreciate the followers I have. I appreciate the amount of questions I get asked. And I’ll appreciate the 2 or 3 people that will read this post.
