so as you may have seen, we’re holding a little pre-con meet up in manchester (UK) and now we have some details for you!

this will be a FREE event and everyone is welcome, whether you think you’ll be able to make it to the actual convention or not!
we decided on the date by taking into consideration as many different school holidays as we could and also working it around our own schedules so we could all be there. we’ve tried to cater for everyone but obviously summer is a tricky time due to holidays and term times being different, but we hope a lot of you will be able to make it!
the nearest train station is manchester victoria and you can get the tram (metrolink) there from manchester piccadilly. we can always arrange to meet you in groups if you’re unfamiliar with the area or not so confident with public transport.
the event aims to be a way for you all to meet each other and get to know each other, find potential roommates for the con, meet other people in your fandoms that you might not know and just hang out and have a bit of fun! you’ll also be able to ask us things you might still not be too clear on and get to know us a little better.
feel free to turn up in cosplay if you so wish, we hope to have some little goodies available for sale which will help us fund tumbl-con and also may give you certain perks at the actual event!

p.s. please note that this was originally scheduled for the 13th of july but due to other commitments we had to change the date. the majority of you voted for the 6th, so here we are. if this proves popular enough, we may bring it to other cities over the coming months between now and the actual convention in summer 2014.
Info on Tumbl-Con USA Auctions!

How will this all work??
This is really the meat of this post, since many have been wondering this!
We will post each piece, either fanfiction, fanart, merchandise, or fancraft, to be commissioned and auctioned on its own livejournal entry in our LJ community. Each individual post will contain the auction information for the author/artist/crafter (AAC). This will include a description of the commission or work being offered, the rate at which it is being offered, and what pairings/characters/genres with which they will or will not work. The threads under each separate community post will contain the commissions the AAC is offering. Bidding will occur ONLY in the replies to these starting comment threads.
Once the AAC commissions have been posted to the overall community, we will create a master list of available auctions listing all of the AACs with links to their posts. Bidders are also capable of browsing at will through our LJ community to search for AACs they would like to commission. The master list will not contain the detailed information, only the names of the AACs with links to their individual posts.
Comments will begin as locked on all threads, until the start of the auctions. Once unlocked, all auctions will start at their minimum bid (explained below) and remain open until the auction’s close. To bid, you should leave a comment in response to the threads below the post. To do this, you must either log in to Livejournal to comment, leave an anonymous comment without logging in, or log in by another means (twitter, facebook, etc). If you are commenting anonymously, REMEMBER TO POST YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS. Your bid comment should contain the amount you are offering, in an even-dollar amount (ie: at least $1, no cents). All bidding will take place in USD. There is no upper limit for how much you can bid on a piece
Comments will be closed by moderators at the end of the auctions. Moderators will begin to contact winners; all winners should expect to receive an e-mail from a Tumbl-Con USA admin within a week of the auction close. Payment will be due at the end of the first week, as we want to ensure all of the AACs have the necessary time to complete all commissions. Payment is via Paypal only, so please do not bid if you are ready and able to pay. Tumbl-Con USA admins can send an invoice to anyone who wishes to pay through a credit card without needing to have a Paypal account, but we will need you to notify us your need for an invoice immediately and provide us with the e-mail address to which you’d like it sent.
At the end of the first week, if we have not received payment from you, we will most likely be contacting the runner-up for the auction and awarding them the commission instead. We are willing to be somewhat flexible on time so long as you contact us before this due date to let us know of any complications. If you are unable to pay within the week following the auction, send a private message to Tumbl-Con USA and give us details of your situation and when you will be able to pay. We will let you know our decision and set an alternate due date, which you must meet.
AACs will have approximately one month from the end of the auction to complete commissions before they are due to auction winners. Flexibility can be allowed depending on the complexity of the commission (which can be reflected in the price or prompt), so please talk about this with the AAC that you won, so that everyone is on the same page about due dates. Our AACs have been generous enough to donate their time, but they also have lives, just like you!
How do the fiction auctions work?
Fiction commissions will be auctioned off at a rate of $1 per 100 words of writing. At a set cap point, individual to each author, the number of words being commissioned will halt, but bidders can still continue to bid in order to win the commission.
Example: Author1 offers a commission for 5k words cap. At the rate of $1 per 100 words, the auction would cap at $50. At that point people may still bid, but anyone bidding more than $50 will still only receive 5k words. Bidder1 can be outbid at this stage by Bidder2, who wants to pay more for that 5k than Bidder1 is willing to pay.
Winning bidders will be contacted after the auctions have closed by one of Tumbl-Con USA’s members about payment. Once payment is received, we will notify authors with their winning bidder’s contact info and word amount, so that they can acquire your prompt. Authors, please do not begin your commission until you have been notified that we have received payment.
How do the art auctions work?
Our artists will be offering fanart commissions at rates they have chosen for the stages of artwork we provided to them. As an auction reaches the prices they have set, the commission will ‘upgrade’ to a more detailed piece of work. The artists have each determined the highest level of detail they are willing to create (their ‘cap’ just like the wordcount cap for fiction). Once bids pass the amount of money needed to reach this cap, the auction will no longer yield an improved drawing and further bids will only determine who wins the artist’s cap stage.
<i>Example: Artist 1 offers the lowest stage of detail (a sketch) for $5 and states that they will be willing to create anyof the stages between that and a full color drawing, and they set prices for each stage, ending in $50 for a full color drawing. As the auction bid amount rises, it will hit the prices set for the increases in detail (for instance, a sketch may be awarded for $5 and when the auction hits $10 the winner would be awarded lineart instead of a sketch). When it reaches at least $50, the winning bidder will receive a full color drawing regardless of the end amount of the auction (ie: you can bid $100, but you will still only get 1 full color drawing).</i>
For the premade (non-commission) pieces provided by artists, a thumbnail or full version with a watermark will be provided on the auction thread, depending on the artist’s preference. The winning bidder will receive a full digital version of the piece with the watermark removed. Finished artwork pieces could be offered alternatively in the craft section, if requested. If a print is requested by the customer, then all shipping and handling fees must be paid by said fan and all other details must be discussed.
Tumbl-con admins will contact the winning bidder at the auction’s close, to inform them they have won. We will also contact the artist to give them the winning bidder’s e-mail address so both parties may begin to work out the details of the commission. Once payment has been received from the winners, we will notify the artists as a green light to begin their work. If you are an artist, please do not begin your commission until we notify you that we have received payment.The few that we have given permission to premake their commission, disregard that.
How do the craft auctions work?
Crafts will be offered as either finished or commission work (depending on the crafter and the item) at a set starting bid chosen by the crafter. The item will remain the same, regardless of bid amount, unless otherwise stated in the craft’s description. Some crafters have been generous enough to offer multiples of their piece, so check before you bid!
For physical crafts that will be shipped, shipping must be paid by the winning bidder, unless the crafter states otherwise. Check the description for the crafters’ location before you bid! If you cannot or are unwilling to pay shipping charges, please do not bid.
Winning bidders will be contacted after the close of the craft auctions with their winning bid and the craft they have won. Once payment has been received from the bidder, we will notify crafers so that they can get in contact with their winners about a prompt (if applicable) or shipping. Crafters, please do not send your item or begin your commission until we notify you that we have received payment.
Who can bid on the auctions?
Anyone! If you do not already have an LJ account (or do not want to log into through another means such as Facebook or Twitter, or don’t want to use any of them to leave your comment-bid), you can leave an anonymous comment as long as you leave an e-mail address where we can reach you. If you leave an ANONYMOUS comment and we do not have your e-mail, your bid WILL NOT COUNT. So please be sure to include it when you bid anonymously!
Whatever method you use to bid is the method through which we will contact you for notification of your winning bid, so please remember to check those avenues after the auctions close! For example, if you’ve bid through Livejouranl, check your LJ inbox. If you bid through Facebook, make sure that you can receive contact through Facebook from us. If you bid through Twitter, please keep an eye out for our tweet! If you do not wish to be contacted through these means, please leave us your preferred method of contact in your comment (such as an e-mail address).
We will let you know when the artits for each fandom is up on the Tumbl-Con USA Livejournal so you can browse ahead of time in order to get an idea of what you’d like to bid on when the auctions open. We can’t wait to get this started!

Fic Commissions for the Star Trek panel at Tumblcon!So I never do this, but: We fucking need a Star Trek panel at Tumblcon. I mean, really - what would Tumblr be without Star Trek? A frightening place devoid of Space Husbands, that’s what. Devoid of fatshirts, Pinto, and bad-ass Uhura. Devoid of ridiculous gifs of slashiness. Possibly devoid of - le gasp - creeper pics of young William Shatner. I mean, let’s be real, Tumblr just wouldn’t be Tumblr without us Trekkies and Trekkers. So let’s make this panel happen, yeah? Yeah. Let’s represent.
