I made the travel team
for the next game.
I’M SO HAPPY.
I actually jumped up and down on my bed and squealed.
This will be the last game before the travel team is re-rostered (for the first time since I’ve joined the league) where the current travel team and coaches will select the 25-skater advanced pool from which future travel team rosters will be drafted.
Nervous! In need of proving my worth! But very, very grateful to the coaches for giving me the opportunity of playing in this next game (closed, away bout). So very, very grateful!

Hey, you know what?
Roller Derby is awesome, it’s a sport, a great one! If you play it, you are an athlete. But you know what else? It’s not the very best thing ever, the be all-end all of sports. It doesn’t make other sports illegitimate. On the contrary, playing sports outside derby will make you an even better player. But straight up, rollergirl to rollergirl, check yourself. Just because you put on your skates and come to practice and even if you’re on a team, that does not make you the coolest, baddest bitch out there. You are not a god or goddess because you play derby. A lot of you put WAY too much emphasis on being cool, looking cool and tough and being crazy or some shit and you are the ones who attract the most attention to derby so the general population has very misconstrued ideas about derby. Quite frankly, you’re embarrassing. I am an athlete, I want to be taken seriously. That isn’t going to happen if you (mostly newbies, just saying) go around talking about being tough and going fuck you to everyone and saying it’s a lesbian sport or hot. Also, the fishnet thing is hella over done. Last week I couldn’t find any tights but my fishnets so I wore those to travel team practice and I was the ONLY one. The more ‘legit’ a skater is, the less she’s going to wear fishnets. (Take this with a grain of salt though, I don’t know every rollergirl) They’re not practical.
Sorry if I’ve offended anyone but due to recent influx of freshies on the Rosebuds, I just needed to get this out there.
I did it!
I made the travel team! The glory is perhaps not as great as if I were in a bigger league with people fighting to keep their tt place- basically there just aren’t really that many available, non-injured players for the date of the bout. But I know that I have improved a bit recently and I get to have my uniform printed up so I’m still well chuffed :D
So now I have a B team bout against the local Cardiff Roller Collective on 22nd May, then the tt bout against Bedfordshire Rollergirls on 4th June. Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!
