College and Career readiness, yo.

So part of being a middle school teacher is decorating your doors. Also part of being a middle school teacher is doing things in the name of College & Career Readiness. Do you see where I am going here?

Each teacher has been assigned a college in Kentucky. I got Transylvania University. I did the same one last year. The first time, I did this cool cut-out letters thing with facts about the university and a few facts about college grads vs. high school grads.

I think this door with be tumblr themed. I’ll make my door look like the dash and the posts will be about things I’ve looked up about Transy- like their new athletic compound.  I am kind of excited now!

Edit:

Tumblr, will you help me out with a class project?

I’m making a public service announcement about rape culture on college campuses and how it’s a serious issue - Could some of you take pictures with as much or as little clothing on as you want with #endrapeculture #asmclass or consent is sexy written somewhere visibly on your bodies in sharpie? It would really help me out! I need them by Tuesday night!! Thanks in advance!

You can be ANY bodied - androgynous, female, trans, male! It doesn’t matter, the more help the better! You can also choose to write “How I dress is NOT a yes” “Not asking for it” Or any clever anti-rape/slut-shaming slogans you can think of!! Thanks again!!

Last night!

WAS INCREDIBLE. Rupp Arena. Press Pass. Press Row. Phenomenal experience.

My life is so good.

My university (a private liberal arts school) is going through a crisis right now where almost the entire faculty gave a vote of no confidence for our university president and the board of trustees decided to release a statement backing the president (to which the faculty responded affirming their declared stance).

It got me to thinking. Would it be a good idea to remove presidents and trustees from the head of schools and let faculties and staff run the schools as they see fit?

“Take the back roads. The ones you get lost on. The ones where it's hard to pass, that you have to slow down to go through little towns. Not to say don't take the highway. If it's your turn to merge onto the interstate, do it. Go 80. Head North, but remember occasionally you'll have to go East and West on your journey. And often times you'll have to go south, back to where you started. There's no shame in that. Sometimes starting over leads you to the road you should have taken in the first place. Nothing is a waste of time as long as you are living every moment. Remember the faster you go the harder it will be to turn off on a back road. The back roads are better. They are the ones you will remember. The most important moments of your life, the person you end up spending it with, the friends you'll meet, the experiences you'll have that you'll share with your kids around a fire, will almost always come from the back roads. Live a life that someone would write a song about. A simple, yet beautiful song with a memorable tune and a refrain that you'll always wanna sing. You don't often here a melody that brings you to tears about a CEO climb up the corporate ladder. Be that CEO that took the back roads on your way up. Don't be in such a hurry to get where you think you are supposed to be, because you'll run the risk of missing the real opportunity. ”

  • Me: Going to Transylvania University is EXACTLY like going to Hogwarts.
