Terrible trade ideas that will never happen, but it's fun to talk about
It’s time for another episode of “Terrible trade ideas that will never happen, but it’s fun to talk about”.
Today’s terrible trade ties in some recent developments. 1) Ainge is willing to trade the big three (no kidding, every GM should be willing to trade anyone if the price is right.) 2) LeBron and Bosh as elevating their game without Wade. 3) Someone please buy the Hornets. Pretty please.
Let me reiterate that this trade will never happen, I expect Wade to spend his career in Miami. It’s also preposterous to think that the Heat and Celtics would make a blockbuster deal with each other. It’s just fun to talk about.
So here’s the deal. Wade and Anthony to Boston, Okefor and Allen to Miami, Jermaine O’Neal, the best of Boston’s 1st round picks (Boston, Clippers, Timberwolves), and Miami’s next available first round pick (They have a lot of picks owed to other teams).
For every team there are benefits and downfalls to this trade.
Boston gets Wade and Anthony. The Celtics are old and slow. After this year, they will have room for two max contracts. Why not get one of those players now in Dwyane Wade? The Celtics starting five would be Rondo, Wade, Pierce, Garnett, and Anthony. A very good defensive team that can still put up a lot of points. Next year the Celtics could sign a top free agent. Dwight Howard? Not likely, but imagine that team, adding Howard to Rondo, Wade, and Pierce. After next season they will be able to sign a top FA to replace Pierce too. Wade and Rondo will run great together. The biggest worry is Wade’s injury history. Wade would add a dynamic scorer that they no longer have and he would help the Celtics get younger and more athletic.
The Heat have played well without Wade. LeBron and Wade are both elite players but their styles are very similar. Wade is clearly the best player in this deal, but the Heat are adding two potential all-stars. Okafor would be their starting center and Allen could start at the 2. The weakness of the Heat is center and point guard. This would replace one of their weaknesses with a good player. The front court would be Okafor, Bosh, and LeBron. Imagine all of the open looks that Allen will get when the defense closes in on those stars. After this season Allen is off the books and the Heat will still have Okafor, Bosh, and LeBron. Maybe Allen will sign back with the Heat (for less) or the Heat could use that money to sign a player for their backcourt. I know it would hurt the Heat to lose Wade, but they would gain a great shooter and an above average center. The Heat would be starting 4 all-star caliber players.
I couldn’t imagine Heat fans would want to trade Wade, but it will be difficult to bring in many players without moving one of their stars. The way the team is currently made-up isn’t too shabby either.
Ok. This one is the hardest to see as do-able. The Hornets, increasing their value to sell, would get out of the Okafor contract, which isn’t a terrible contract, but it would open up money in the upcoming offseason. They would also gain two first round picks and it would give the new management a lot of flexibility to mold their new team.
Like I said, there is no way this deal will happen but it would improve the Heat’s chances of willing a title this year (not sure long term if this makes them better or not, depends on their offseason.), set the Celtics up for a good transition away from the aging team, and help to sell the Hornets prepare for sale. Come on Danny, at least make the phone call.
EDIT: After I wrote this I saw that Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports wrote that the Heat should trade Wade to the Celtics but in a different deal.
“Hoping to pull off a pair of blockbuster moves that would rock the NBA, the Lakers are willing to trade anyone on their roster outside of Kobe Bryant to bring Howard and Paul to Los Angeles.”—
Sources — Los Angeles Lakers eye blockbuster trades
Yeah, yeah, yeah … wishful thinking. Especially considering that there isn’t even a collective bargaining agreement yet. And apparently, the Clippers are looking to acquire Paul and Howard also, willing to trade everyone except Blake Griffin.
Its that time of the year again. NBA season is starting and the gyms are up and running again. And there has been MAD trade rumors going on.
Dwight Howard- A lot of teams are interested in getting him such as LAL, NJ, LAC, and also the NYK. I’m not sure with the money with LAL, can they afford Dwight? I know Dwight wants to play for the lakers and what not. But I don’t know. I think the best place for Dwight is Jersey. Not because I’m a Nets fan. But the Nets got one of the top 3 point guards in the league. Plus their moving to Brooklyn, new arena. Not disrespecting LAL, but I feel that they depleting slowly. Their a much older team. Clippers, what can they give? Being able to play with Blake. Is that enough? Beats me. And with the Knicks, I don’t think they need a big man, they need a point to help out Melo and Amare. That’s my opinion.
Chris Paul- There were rumors saying that the Celtics were going to offer Rondo for Paul. Which is weird to me to imagine. The offense will be so much different for the Celtics. And it would be weird to see Paul in a Celtic jersey. And I dislike Boston. lol.
There have been tweets saying He requested a trade to the Knicks. That must be a great feeling for NY. I kinda want to see that. I feel that he’s the piece that the Knicks really need. I wonder who the Knicks is going to give up to get him though.
I think that LAL should try to get Chris Paul. Derek Fisher is old. Lakers need a upgraded point guard.
We see how the season progress. Praying the the Nets though! Deron and Dwight! We need that!
Evan Longoria is not disgruntled, folks.
The Twitter account @MLBInsideNews first reported Monday that Longoria was unhappy and has perpetuated the report throughout the week, citing the accuracy of its information on other MLB stories, such as Albert Pujols heading to the Angels. The report has been a popular topic among Rays fans on Twitter, and has made its way to a few blogs.
Among the posts from the account, in the name of Scott Swaim:
Breaking: Sources tell me that Evan Longoria would welcome a trade. He is disgruntled by the #Rays situation, and unwillingness to spend.
While he is not demanding a trade, Longoria would not reject one, and he would be glad to go
The #Rays have begun fielding calls for Longoria as of late this morning, sources say.
“I don’t have any idea where that rumor came from! It’s completely false,” Longoria told the Times via text. “I’ve said from the start I love Tampa, I love the direction we are heading as a franchise and there is no better place for me to continue to grow as a player and person.”
Bye Melky. Have fun in Canada.
Looks like the Melky Cabrera train has pulled into the station. And the station is in Canada. And a ticket costs $16 million dollars.
There was so much will they/won’t they this year surrounding this man. Will they bring him back for the post season? Will they sign him next year? A lot of media folk were saying, “Sure, if the price is right.” This made me cringe since because before this whole debacle went down, I pictured us offering Melky a low paying contract and all the fans awkwardly fake cheering him on next year when none of us really meant it.
I don’t have a real opinion on PEDs. Yes, I would prefer a clean game, one that is free from any drugs that enhance a player’s performance. Do I think this is realistic? No, I don’t. And any team laughing at the Giants, or the A’s or any other team that was affected this year - well, I think they are kidding themselves. I am willing to bet a lot of money that there is at least one guilty player on every MLB team that has abused PEDs. Hello. Ryan Braun? MVP candidate? It’s likely he is guilty. Yet everyone moves on because they know that’s the reality in this day and age.
What I am NOT okay with is the way Melky left. First he flat out denied it (which I get to some extent) - then he leaves without a WORD. Without talking to his brothers from another mothers - his outfield posse. Nothing to Pagan. Nothing to Blanco. Just gone like the wind. Then the fake website? C’mon dude. On top of that, we were dressed as MELK MEN for crying out loud. We embraced him with open arms, and that’s how he “thank you the fans”. Hit the road jack, I ain’t havin’ it.
I mean, when I say we literally welcomed him with open arms.. I meant it:
I mean, I should have known when he was hitting it off with our arch enemy, Matt Kemp:
Anyway, my point is - do I think he’s a talented player? Yes. Do I feel like he helps teams win? Yes. Do I want him on my team? No. No I do not.
Bye Melky. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
