how to make Torchlight II epilepsy safe

People with epilepsy or other sensory sensitivities may have issues playing Torchlight II with its default settings. There are, however, some options you can change around to make it less “flashy”.

This was on Windows 7 so the file path might be different for other operating systems:

  1. Open up My Computer and navigate to C:\Users\[your username here]\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2
  2. Open up local_settings.txt in notepad or a similar text editor.
  3. Change the MAX_PARTICLES setting to something very low. I tried 200 and it worked well. Then save the file and open up your game. It should now be significantly less flashy in battles. The particles setting should almost completely erase all of the effects that flash when you attack enemies or spells are cast.
  4. If you still have problems, try changing the PARTICLE_FPS setting and similar ones in the file. You can also disable the bloom/glow effect in the regular in-game menu.

I can’t seem to find anything to turn off the camera shake. For the first Torchlight game there was a file in the install directory, but there isn’t one this time. Does anyone know how to disable it?
