There's actors and then there's Benedict Cumberbatch.
You know, a lot of my friends have asked me before, “What do you see in this man that you don’t see in Chris Evans or Justin Bieber?” I always say dedication. This man, he is so dedicated to his work, his life, and getting it right. As I watch Sherlock, or Hawking, or Third Star, I see him transform into this unreal human, whom indeed is very much human. He can go from genius to cancer patient to detective and that’s what makes him an actor. That is what sets him apart to me. He puts so much heart into everything he does that I once read that to get into character for Third Star he lost weight, swam in freezing cold waters, and set himself into the mentality of the character. He doesn’t just read off a script and pretend. I truly believe that Benedict is remarkable enough to become that person, even if it’s for a while. About two weeks ago I went and I saw Tinker Tailor Solider Spy and as we walked my friend said she didn’t comprehend Benedict’s portrayal of Peter, I responded with this; He became Peter and set himself in the moment, in the beauty of acting without words, just expression. He acts like actors should act, and does it with such eloquence and emotion, I cannot help but want to watch every film he is. Because he can and he will make me feel all the emotions that his character feels; and that is just beautiful.
