Carol's definitely growing to be my favorite this season
At first I didn’t exactly think much of her. I thought she was useless and generally uninteresting. But as the second and third seasons have progressed, she’s growing to be my favorite alive character on the show.
She’s grown so, so much from the first season, emotionally and physically. She’s blossomed from the midwife who followed to a tougher woman who can protect herself. Take for example the most recent conflict: getting lost after the zombie outbreak in the prison. This is just my personal opinion, but I don’t believe first season Carol or maybe even early second season Carol would have lived. She’s adapted to the world they must live in, as everyone has, and fought those zombies away until exhaustion and dehydration nearly killed her. Yes, Daryl found her and carried her out, but it’s astonishing she’d lived that long.
I’d also seen an interview on clothing choices for the characters, and they’d mentioned that Carol’s flourishing was also showing in the way she dresses currently vs how she used to. She wears more vibrant colors (the pink tank top, the colorful headwrap) this season as opposed to her drab first season apparel.
All in all, she’s toughened up and its appeal to me is wonderful.
There are a lot of characters from the comics that we will eventually work into the show — Tyreese, Abraham, this new character Negan, who is the latest bad guy. They all exist in the world of The Walking Dead, and it’s just a matter of time before we meet them all. Right now, we’ve got the Governor onstage, and we’re just getting him up and running, but seasons from now, I could certainly see bringing in Negan. He’s a really scary and compelling character, but we have no current plans now. - Glen Mazzara
