“The moon is bland, it's grey in shade. Other than the color you have brought there yourself, the only color you see out there are the multicolor blues of the oceans, the whites of the snow and the clouds. And the Earth itself is three dimensional and moves out there with logic and with purpose and with beauty.. Beyond comprehension”

It has just been announced that the President of the London Symphony Orchestra, Sir Colin Davis, has passed away. What an incredible musician this man was - here is the LSO under his baton with a mystical movement from Holst’s The Planets.

Without a doubt one of my all-time favourite classical pieces. It transports me into an entirely other state of mind, quite away from anything of this world. Perhaps not the work of angels, as such, but the work of shadows and ethereal voices half-glimpsed and half-heard on the borders of dreaming sleep.

One of my all time favourite pieces of music. Used to listen to this every night before bed when I was a child, and it still gives me that warm sense of comfort. Brilliantly composed- this is my favourite version, the tempo just seems perfect.
