What? Ethnicity? In a form? To fill out? I thought that was just those movies about the army and that ep of cold case where a guy could pass as white wrote that he was caucasian instead and his friend was all, what are you doing?
Ethnicity is all the damn rage, and the Federal government wants ALL THE DATAS about what every damn thing is in relation to ethnicity. Like, what is your enrollment - ethnicity break-down. Who passed Algebra in 8th grade - and is Black? SERIOUSLY? WHAT THE HELL.
And they can change this by filling out a new form each school year (whatever paperwork the parents fill out at the beginning of the year) and put down a new ethnicity so basically they can be a new race any time their parents feel like putting down something different. And I don’t even think we are allowed to question it, even though this one kid I just came across was clearly black and they had him down as White and American Indian. WHAT?!
I really do not understand why parents are allowed to put down any ethnicity that they want to for their students.
I mean, ethnicity isn’t just something that changes whenever you want it to, yet parents can also change the student’s ethnicity code whenever they want to. Any time they fill out a form they can put down a different ethnicity. Like, shouldn’t it be whatever is on the birth certificate and leave it at that?
It’s not exactly some free-form thing that changes with the wind, so I don’t see why the school systems just let them put down what the hell ever they want. It’s really stupid.
Also, it makes my job difficult.
