Pigeon by Tennis (Album: Cape Dory)

Some bands are created by love, and Tennis falls into that small, but existing category. Tennis is Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, a precious husband/wife duo who’ve been billed as one of the most promising acts of 2011. With last year’s release of the infectious track, “Marathon”, this couple has gained a cult following of sorts. Their nostalgic, endearing tunes have spread like wild fire across the indie-music world.

From their debut album, Cape Dory (set to release later this month), “Pigeon” encapsulates what this band is all about. Their debut album takes inspiration from their eight month sailing adventure through the Atlantic coast, so tracks like “Pigeon” are cheerful, charming, and beachy. Musically, it seems as though the duo is comfortable with emulating that 50s-pop sound in an all too modern world, as guitar riffs sweep listeners away like an oceanic current. In addition, Alaina’s vocals are absolutely delightful; her voice holds a certain innocence to it that’s extremely pleasing to the ears.

Tennis keeps it simple, but they also keep it sweet.
