Women of 'Mad Men' talk about Don, story rumors and the end

“The show is titled ‘Mad Men,’ but without these women, the guys would be just a bunch of desperate masturbators in great suits.”

So said Holly Hunter, introducing the lead actresses of the acclaimed AMC drama last week at the nonprofit Women in Film awards. And, really, it’s hard to argue. While the show’s men, most notably, the self-loathing Don Draper, keep repeating sins from the past, the women have evolved and adapted through the show’s six seasons.

First, Holly Hunter is a national treasure, without question. Second, the title of this interview is a bit misleading because the women actually spend most of the time talking about their own characters, not Don. Third, despite the questionable title, this a great interview. I especially love Christina Hendricks not knowing about the Internet conspiracy theories surrounding the show this season, the discussion about Betty, and Kiernan Shipka’s insights into Sally.

“I do like [Kevin Spacey's character] talking to the camera. I need that, kind of. I don't know what's happening at any point in every TV show or movie. If someone like, in Game of Thrones would just turn to the camera and be like "we want to climb the wall!" I'd be like "oooohhhh, okay." ”
