Tour guide?
Last night, I went to LTU’s imaging students thesis show—which happened to be at Studio Couture Detroit. We left a little early and I took my boyfriend on a little tour of the city. I showed him where Pop Up Detroit is, exactly which loft I’m dying to buy, Hostel Detroit, Grand Circus Park, Techtown, and some things along the Cass Corridor. He’s a bit jumpy, but I can’t blame him—the news DOES make it sound like snipers are going to get you from the tops of buildings. We need to change this, N-O-W.
He is beginning to understand why I love this city, and as an artist himself, why he needs to be contributing to this scene and culture. I like to see the start of a spark in him, that thought seed in his head. Detroit will slowly become a part of him, just as it did for me. If this is all it takes, why don’t we have some sort of Detroit Ambassador service—giving tours and showing everyone how amazing this city is firsthand? Can we do this?
