“I am tired of tears and laughter, And men that laugh and weep; Of what may come hereafter For men that sow to reap: I am weary of days and hours, Blown buds of barren flowers, Desires and dreams and powers And everything but sleep.”

—The Gardens of Proserpine by Algernon Charles Swinburne

From Swinburne's The Garden of Proserpine

We are not sure of sorrow,

         And joy was never sure;

To-day will die to-morrow;

         Time stoops to no man’s lure;

And love, grown faint and fretful,

With lips but half regretful

Sighs, and with eyes forgetful

         Weeps that no loves endure.

From too much love of living,

         From hope and fear set free,

We thank with brief thanksgiving

         Whatever gods may be

That no life lives for ever;

That dead men rise up never;

That even the weariest river

         Winds somewhere safe to sea.

“ Night falls like fire; the heavy lights run low, And as they drop, my blood and body so Shake as the flame shakes, full of days and hours That sleep not, neither weep they as they go.”

Laus Veneris, Algernon Swinburne.

Swinburne deferment application:

What are your reasons for defering?

Must earn money for independent university lifestyle - am in fact, broke.
I wasn’t keen on high school.
I don’t really want to go here but don’t know how to tell you.
Sounds easier than enrolling.
Can’t be fucked meeting new people.
Have to sleep for a year.
Must have eyes metaphorically opened by impoverished Peruvian orphans before continuing with life.
Tumblr is my main concern right now.
Just had a tough breakup, in that two characters I like on a TV show aren’t getting together.
Prahan is not close to my housequarters.
Prahan is a funny name and I don’t trust it.
I’d like to be different and carefree, to be apart from my hard-working and boring university ex-friends.
Cause I’m too silly for this course.

“Ah God, that love were as a flower or flame, That life were as the naming of a name, That death were not more pitiful than desire, That these things were not one thing and the same!”

—Algernon Charles Swinburne, Laus Veneris

Algernon Charles Swinburne - Dolores

Fruits fail and love dies and time ranges;
Thou art fed with perpetual breath,
And alive after infinite changes,
And fresh from the kisses of death;
Of languors rekindled and rallied,
Of barren delights and unclean,
Things monstrous and fruitless, a pallid
               And poisonous queen.

Could you hurt me, sweet lips, though I hurt you?
Men touch them, and change in a trice
The lilies and languors of virtue
For the raptures and roses of vice;
Those lie where thy foot on the floor is,
These crown and caress thee and chain,
O splendid and sterile Dolores,
               Our Lady of Pain.

There are sins it may be to discover,
There are deeds it may be to delight.
What new work wilt thou find for thy lover,
What new passions for daytime or night?
What spells that they know not a word of
Whose lives are as leaves overblown?
What tortures undreamt of, unheard of,
               Unwritten, unknown?

LIFE IS GOD DAMN AWESOME

Today was the day first round offers come out, for those who don’t know this is one of the most important days as you find out where you will be spending the next few years of your life. I am talking about Universities and Tafe.

I was over the moon when I recieved my offer to study Graphic Design at Swinburne! S DAMN EXCITED WEWWWWWW

Maybe one of these days I should share my art with you people on tumblr?

UNI TALK.

All i’ve been doing is researching universities. At the start of the year I had my head down on going to a university in the UK, but i’m now thinking about staying in Australia, more specific Melbourne. Melbourne looks great, cool lifestyle, arts capital, get chilly and hot-ish… which is perfect weather! Mum is trying to convince me to go to a university in asia but as ridiculous as it sounds… the weather is my only drawback.

Here are my picks:

I’m planning to study Media and Photography, it’ll be great! I actually can’t wait for Uni, finding a place, free time, facilities, parties, freedom, IT’S GOING TO ME GREAT!

“By the hunger of change and emotion, By the thirst of unbearable things, By despair, the twin-born of devotion, By the pleasure that winces and stings, The delight that consumes the desire, The desire that outruns the delight, By the cruelty deaf as a fire And blind as the night, By the ravenous teeth that have smitten Through the kisses that blossom and bud, By the lips intertwisted and bitten Till the foam has a savour of blood, By the pulse as it rises and falters, By the hands as they slacken and strain, I adjure thee, respond from thine altars, Our Lady of Pain.”

—from “Dolores” by Swinburne

“Oh Swinburne, I've decided I like you, you freak.”
