Rude Awakening

V sat on the couch drinking a cup of tea, enjoying the peace of the early morning. IV had gone out the night before, allowing him a particularly good night’s sleep.

The blissful silence was shattered when IV burst through the doors and entered the sitting room wearing a smug grin.

“What are you so happy about?” asked V, a slight scowl marring his peaceful expression.

“Oh you know, quality alcohol and quality fucking.”

V grimaced. IV was beyond gauche at times.

“By the way,” IV called over his shoulder as he turned down the hall toward his room, a wicked glint in his eye, “you never mentioned that Kaito likes to bite.”

V choked on the sip of tea he’d just taken and stared in horror at the corner of the wall as IV’s cackling faded behind the slam of a door.

Kaito wasn’t even sure why he’d come to prom.  Probably because Yuuma had been so insistent that Kaito go to prom for ONCE in his life…Kaito had never been to school before, so he’d never experienced anything like graduation.  Kaito had refused to go with anyone though, hanging in the background as he watched Yuuma and all his buddies dancing in a group.  The loud music was exhausting for him, and he was tempted to leave.  He had better things to do, like hunt Barians.  Sighing, Kaito turned to leave when a familiar voice stopped him cold in his tracks.

“Well well, if it isn’t Tenjo Kaito~   I didn’t know you just graduated!”  Came IV’s taunting voice.  Kaito growled and spun around.

“I never even went to school.  What the hell are you doing here IV?”  He snarled.  IV chuckled.

“Please, it’s not ‘IV’ anymore.  My name’s Thomas.  And really, neither did I, but that doesn’t explain why you’re here, does it?”  He said with a smirk.  Kaito rolled his eyes.

“It’s none of your business why I’m here Thomas.  Why are you here?”  He said sternly.  Thomas gestured to Yuuma’s friend group, and Kaito was able to pick out the younger pink haired Arclight brother among the crowd.

“My little brother wanted to go, and he wouldn’t go unless I did too.  That’s why.”  Thomas replied casually.  “You look awfully bored…wanna have some fun, Kaito?”  He added with a smirk.  Kaito’s eyes narrowed.

“Somehow I think you and I have very different ideas about what ‘fun’ is, Thomas…”  Kaito growled.  Thomas shrugged.

“Do you find dancing fun, Kaito?”  He asked.

“Not particularly.”  Kaito replied.  Thomas tilted his head.

“Well it’s something to do!  Would you be willing to dance with me for a bit?  Kill some time?”  Thomas asked.  Kaito was taken aback.

“You’re asking me to dance?”  He repeated, needing to make sure he wasn’t hearing things.  The music was loud, so clearly he must have misheard Thomas.  Thomas rolled his eyes and snorted.

“What, are you deaf?  Yeah I’m asking you to dance!”  He said with a grin.  “So what do you say?”  Kaito sighed.  Out of all the people at the prom, he never would’ve thought he’d ever get asked to dance with Thomas Arclight, but he supposed the other was right.  It would be a good way to kill time.

“Fine.”  Kaito said at last, following Thomas to the dance floor.  One dance wouldn’t hurt, he figured.  It was, as Thomas had said, a way to kill time.  He just wanted to go home.

Somehow, one dance ended up being several.  Once he’d danced with Thomas once, he found that he liked it.  Thomas encouraged him, and he was actually not a bad dancer.  Kaito enjoyed being with him, as much as he hated to admit it.  This was the man who had helped kidnap his brother…but he supposed that if Thomas’ story was anything like Chris’, the other had only been doing it to save his own family.

In that way, it seemed that he and Thomas had alot in common.
