well i tend to not involve myself in those conversations though? usually i don’t even input an opinion on it so people just assume i have an opinion, i guess?

Same. It’s not weird to feel that way if you weren’t directly affected. Things like that are unimaginable if you weren’t there or haven’t experienced something similar, so our minds gloss it over. We don’t have any precendent to tell us how to feel.
but it also seems like a lack of human sympathy on my part too, y’know? if i don’t feel some sort of indirect sadness i feel like i’m not doing my part to support any kind of relief efforts out there. like, whoa, humans died.
maybe it’s partially related to desensitization?
