Show me the goods; I’ll show you the money

OK, the headline is a lie.  I personally won’t show you the money, because, well quite frankly, I don’t have any. Apparently I haven’t invested in commodities!

Living in a farming community and watching the change of the season to autumn turns my mind toward harvest time and the grain yields.

As a kid, suppertime was extremely quiet because we had to listen to the markets. Will Dad be in a good mood or bad mood? And as many of you have noticed throughout my blogs, you can almost hear the synapses fire as they make those sometimes random connections to my customer favorite or best seller.

So with that being said, it brings me to this week’s customer favorite by Carley Garner: A Traders First Book on Commodities.

This simple, practical, 100% useful how to guide is a must for new commodities traders.

The world of commodities is complex, fascinating, and has a profound effect on economies and consumers around the world. But you will need significant practical knowledge of the associated risks and market characteristics before starting.

No boring theory or befuddling complex garbled trading strategies. A Traders First Book on Commodities is simply specific guidance on accessing commodity market’s costs effectively. As well as how to avoid common beginners mistakes for successful profitable trades.

Garner draws on her extensive experience teaching traders and shows how to calculate profit, loss and risk and even how to choose the best brokerage firm.

There is so much more to commodities than just soybeans and corn. Those particular two are near and dear to my heart because they elicit an emotional response from my childhood. Farmers in their fields. The smell of corn dust in the air. Fallen tree leaves burning in piles around the yard. Pot roast in the oven. My dad yelling at the TV, wondering why the heck the price of soybeans dropped 10 cents a bushel.

Just a side note: My dad is one of the hardest working men I know who dedicated his life to farming. My hat goes off to him! And to this day when I hear the market reports on the TV, out of habit and respect, I listen!

So.  My brother is here.  He and my boyfriend are bonding over Steve Coogan and soy beans.

What have I done.

Soybeans now rule the range on Argentina plains - latimes.com

Another great piece on what the global commodity boom (minerals, oil, fish, agricultural products) is changing people’s daily lives in Latin America.  In this case it is Argentina and soy beans. Soon the image of the gaucho will be that of a tractor instead of a horse.
